Vinton County public meetings Jan. 19 week; check for cancellations

Local trustees, councils and regional boards scheduled a packed slate of public meetings for the week of Jan. 19, but officials cautioned that the federal holiday on Jan. 19 could have altered plans and residents were urged to verify meeting status.

Rome Township Board of Trustees met at 5 p.m. Monday at the Rome Township Building, 8708 SR 144 in Stewart. York Township Board of Trustees met at 6 p.m. Monday at the York Township Fire Department, 15255 Elm Rock Road, Nelsonville. Nelsonville’s City Council-elect convened at 7 p.m. Monday at The Lodge at Hocking College, 15770 SR 691, Nelsonville.

County and regional bodies held or planned several sessions through the week. On Tuesday, Jan. 20, meetings included the Athens County Veteran Service Commission at 5 p.m.; the Athens County Budget Commission at 9 a.m.; the Athens County Board of County Commissioners at 9:30 a.m.; and the Athens Affordable Housing Commission at noon. The Athens Metropolitan Housing Authority Board of Commissioners met at 3 p.m. The Athens County Public Libraries Board of Trustees met in Nelsonville at 4 p.m. United Campus Ministry Board of Directors assembled at 5:15 p.m. Athens Township Zoning Commission and Tri-County Career Center Board of Education each met at 6 p.m., and the Athens City Council met at 7 p.m. with a livestream option.

Wednesday’s schedule included the Corrections Commission of Southeast Ohio at 9 a.m., the Athens County Land Bank Board at 11 a.m., and the Athens Planning Commission at noon with a livestream. The Athens County Port Authority met at 1 p.m. with Zoom access, followed by the Athens County Board of Elections at 3:30 p.m. The Albany Village Council convened at 6 p.m., alongside other local meetings.

Trimble Township Board of Trustees met at 7 p.m. Thursday in Glouster. No meetings were listed for Friday, Jan. 23. Looking ahead, Monday, Jan. 26 featured the Athens-Hocking-Vinton Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health (317) Board at 6 p.m. at 7990 Dairy Lane, Athens, with Zoom access; Athens City Council at 7 p.m.; and Nelsonville City Council at 7 p.m. with a livestream.

Many of these sessions involve zoning, budgeting, housing and public safety decisions that affect property owners, service access and local taxes. Meetings of the Athens County Board of Elections, Athens County Land Bank and Athens Affordable Housing Commission carry particular implications for housing policy and election administration in the region that includes Vinton County residents.
