A driver ignored traffic directions near North Carolina State University and dragged a Raleigh police officer about 10 feet Friday afternoon, turning a routine event-control assignment into a hit-and-run case at one of Raleigh’s busiest campus intersections.

The incident happened around 4:40 p.m. at Pullen Road and Western Boulevard, where the officer was working off duty to direct traffic for an NC State event. Police said the officer suffered a minor elbow injury and was not seriously hurt. The driver pulled away while the officer was still partly in the vehicle, then fled the scene.

NC State University Police identified the driver as 25-year-old Shelley Anne Moore, who was taken into custody the same day. ABC11 reported Moore is from Marietta, Ohio. Court records and broadcast reports said she was charged with felony hit-and-run injury, felony resisting a public officer causing serious injury, misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger and misdemeanor failure to obey a traffic officer.

Moore was held on a $5,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Wake County Court on Monday. North Carolina law says resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer becomes a felony when that conduct proximately causes serious injury, which explains the elevated charge in this case.

The crash came during NC State’s spring commencement period, when an Electrical and Computer Engineering ceremony was listed for May 7 at Reynolds Coliseum and other campus events were scheduled that week. That traffic pressure made the Pullen Road and Western Boulevard area especially busy, and the case shows how quickly a campus traffic detail can become a public-safety emergency when a driver ignores instructions.
