Furniture World closes Crabtree Valley Mall store, plans bigger Raleigh location

Furniture World Raleigh is leaving its first-level space near Macy’s at Crabtree Valley Mall, another sign of the turnover under way at Wake County’s largest mall. The store said it will reopen in a bigger Raleigh location, while customers at the current Crabtree site are seeing closing discounts.

Furniture World posted on Facebook on May 9 that it was moving after many years in the Raleigh market. The message said, “After many wonderful years of serving our Raleigh community, we are closing our current location to move to a bigger & better location to serve you in the future.” The store is listed in suite 1049 at 4325 Glenwood Ave., on Level 1 of the mall.

The move comes as Crabtree Valley Mall continues a broader reset under Macerich Company, which bought the Raleigh property in June 2025 for $290 million. Macerich has said it is reimagining the center with upgrades that include fresh paint, upgraded lighting and sleek new handrails. Crabtree says it has more than 200 stores, making it the largest mall in the Research Triangle area, but its tenant mix has been shifting as the property changes.

That churn has not been limited to Furniture World. WRAL reported in September 2025 that some kiosk operators at Crabtree were told to pack up and leave as renovations continued, a reminder that the mall’s refresh has affected smaller businesses inside the center as well. The changes have raised a larger question for shoppers who have long treated Crabtree as a steady retail anchor on Glenwood Avenue: how much of the mall’s old lineup will survive the renovation push, and what kind of tenants will fill the space as the property is remade.

For shoppers, the immediate takeaway is straightforward. Furniture World’s Crabtree location is closing, and the store is using the transition to clear inventory before reopening in a larger location elsewhere in Raleigh. For Crabtree Valley Mall, the departure adds to the evidence that the mall’s next chapter will look different from the one that came before it.
