Andrew Penvose, a 35-year-old Wake County man, was arrested March 5 and charged with one count of felony statutory rape stemming from alleged sexual assaults against a juvenile that reportedly occurred in 2011 and 2014, more than a decade before his arrest.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office received the initial report on Feb. 20, 2026. After an investigation, deputies charged Penvose with felony statutory rape, a sex offense that under North Carolina law involves an adult defendant who is at least six years older than the minor involved. Penvose was taken into custody and booked into the Wake County Detention Center on March 5. The Sheriff's Office released no additional information about the case when the booking details were posted.

As of the time of this reporting, no court dates or bond information had been made public, and public Wake County court dockets had not shown formal filings tied to the arrest. Prosecutors will need to file charging documents before the case can proceed to grand-jury review, indictment, or arraignment at the Wake County Justice Center in Raleigh.

The case illustrates a significant feature of North Carolina criminal law: felony sexual offense prosecutions are generally not subject to a statute of limitations, which is why allegations dating to 2011 and 2014 can still move forward in the legal system. The UNC School of Government has noted that convictions for felony sexual offenses carry long-term consequences, including mandatory sex offender registration and other collateral penalties.

Penvose has been charged, not convicted. The alleged victim is identified in court records only as a juvenile. No defense counsel for Penvose has been identified in public records, and no statements from Penvose or his representatives have been made available.
