Deputies found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound on the 3000 block of Avery Street in the Garner area and transported her to a hospital, Wake County Sheriff’s Office investigators said. The sheriff’s office opened an investigation after the call that was reported Feb. 19, 2026.

Local television reporting said the shooting struck an occupied residence and nearby vehicles. "The home, which was occupied, was hit by gunfire. Cars were also struck by bullets," ABC11 wrote, and added that "Deputies found multiple shell castings on the road, and witnesses told authorities they saw a car leaving the area."

Accounts differ on the timing of the incident. WRAL posted that "The shooting occurred in the 3000 block of Avery Street just after 11 a.m." while ABC11 reported that "Deputies responded to the call about 7:15 p.m. to the 3000 block of Avery Street" and described the scene as occurring "Saturday night" in its initial write-up. Those times and day-of-week references contradict one another and with the Feb. 19 date; WCSO has not released a detailed chronology to reconcile the differences.

At the time of reporting there was no public suspect information and investigators had not announced arrests. "The incident remains under active investigation. No one is in custody, the sheriff's office said," ABC11 stated, attributing that status to WCSO. WRAL noted the "extent of injuries is not yet known," and the local accounts do not include the woman's name, age, the hospital to which she was taken, or her current medical condition.

Wake County deputies remained the primary agency handling the scene, and the sheriff's office has been identified in all reports as the lead investigator. ABC11 included a request for tips, saying: "Anyone with information that would assist in the investigation is asked to please call WCSO's non-emergency line at (919) 856-6911."

Neighbors and drivers on Avery Street should expect that law enforcement may conduct follow-up interviews and evidence collection in the area as the investigation continues. WRAL noted its newsroom is "working to learn more," and sheriff's office public information is the authoritative source for updates on timing, victim status, property damage, and any suspect descriptions.
