Wake Forest made ACC Tournament history Tuesday night in Charlotte, becoming just the second team ever to put seven players in double figures in the conference tournament as the Demon Deacons outlasted Virginia Tech 95-89 in overtime at the Spectrum Center.

The only other team to accomplish that feat was the 2007 Demon Deacons, who did it in a double-overtime game against Georgia Tech. Tuesday's victory also marked the first overtime contest of the 2026 T. Rowe Price ACC Men's Basketball Tournament and the eighth overtime game in the event's first-round history.

Myles Colvin led Wake Forest with 18 points and six rebounds, while Sebastian Akins contributed 14. Mekhi Mason and Tre'Von Spillers each added 13. Virginia Tech's Ben Hammond was the game's leading scorer with 23 points, backed by Jailen Bedford's 17 and Jaden Schutt's 15, but it was not enough to offset Wake's remarkable depth of scoring.

The 13th-seeded Demon Deacons held a 38-34 halftime lead before Virginia Tech mounted a 41-point second half to force overtime. Hammond tied the game at 75 with two free throws with 47 seconds left in regulation, and neither team scored again before the extra period began.

Wake took command once overtime started, outscoring the Hokies 20-14. The Demon Deacons hit 5-of-7 field goals and made all nine of their free throws in the overtime period to build the winning margin. For the game, Wake shot 51 percent from the field (30-of-59) and 90 percent from the free-throw line (27-of-30). Virginia Tech finished at 41 percent (29-of-70) and went 8-of-24 from three-point range compared to Wake's 8-of-22. The Hokies dominated the glass, outrebounding Wake Forest 45-28, yet the advantage proved inconsequential given the Demon Deacons' efficiency at the line.

The box score showed a nearly mirror-image contest in several categories: both teams made eight three-pointers, scored 40 points in the paint, and recorded seven fast-break points. Assists separated the two sides by just one, 15-14 in Wake's favor.

Notably absent from Wake's scoring was Juke Harris, the ACC's Most Improved Player, who finished with 10 points on 3-of-18 shooting. The seven players who reached double figures compensated entirely for his off night.

Wake Forest improved to 7-7 all-time in ACC Tournament overtime games with the result. Virginia Tech fell to 2-3 in tournament overtime contests.

The 13th-seeded Demon Deacons advanced to face fifth-seeded Clemson in the second round Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. at the Spectrum Center.
