Ashley HomeStore Gives Beds to Yuma Children, Promotes Community Care
Ashley HomeStore in Yuma hosted its annual Hope to Dream event on December 14, providing beds at no cost to 50 local children and their families. The donations addressed immediate household needs while spotlighting broader public health and social equity concerns around sleep, housing stability, and support for children.

On Sunday December 14, Ashley HomeStore of Yuma welcomed families for its annual Hope to Dream event, inviting 50 children selected from Yuma District One, Crane Elementary School District and Crossroads Mission for a community movie night. The children watched The Grinch on beds displayed outside the store, enjoyed food and visits from Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and then each child was surprised with the bed they had just watched the film on, donated at no cost. Local store leadership described community giving as the heart of the initiative, and the Yuma location continues a multi year participation in the national Hope to Dream program that provides beds to children in need.
The immediate benefit for families is clear. Access to a stable place to sleep reduces daily household stress and can improve a child s ability to focus and perform in school. From a public health perspective, consistent sleep is linked to better mental health and physical development, and programs that supply beds can relieve some of the acute burdens faced by households coping with financial strain or unstable housing.
Beyond the donated furniture, the event highlighted systemic gaps. Families served by local schools and social service organizations often face intersecting challenges including inadequate housing, limited access to health services and economic insecurity. While private donations meet urgent needs, community leaders and policymakers must consider how to scale supports so that no child relies solely on philanthropic efforts for basic items that affect health and school readiness.

The Yuma event also modeled how local businesses, school districts and mission based organizations can coordinate to reach families directly. For residents and community stakeholders the Hope to Dream screening offered a festive moment of relief and dignity, and a reminder that ensuring child health requires both immediate practical help and long term investment in housing, health care and education supports.
