Cibola High School kept its grip on Yuma Union High School District track and field Monday, rolling to another championship at home and turning the meet into a statement about depth, continuity and what comes next for the Raiders’ postseason push.

The Cibola girls won their fifth straight district title, and the boys made it three in a row, as the Raiders controlled the meet from start to finish at Cibola High School. Cibola won 15 of 22 track events and swept all six relays, then finished with 273 points on the boys side and 193 points for the girls. In KYMA’s medal-ceremony follow-up, the boys were credited with a 106-point win over Gila Ridge High School, while the girls beat Gila Ridge by 72.

Head coach Kevin McLean said the meet reflected more than a one-day burst of speed. The district races, he said, carried rivalry and camaraderie at the same time, a sign of a program that has become the standard in its league rather than a one-off powerhouse. That matters in a district schedule that has included Division I competition against schools such as Gila Ridge, Kofa, San Luis, Somerton and San Pasqual during the 2025-26 season.

The individual storylines helped explain why Cibola keeps winning. Kat Martinez said her first year in track involved brutal practices, but she credited the coaching staff for helping her improve and chase personal records. Caius Lastra described the boys’ success as something built on trust, saying he had known most of his teammates throughout high school and that they felt like brothers. Lastra’s season has already carried past the district meet: he signed March 16 to run track and cross country at Central Arizona College.

The Raiders’ next test comes in early May, when some Cibola athletes are headed to state-level competition. For a program that has now stacked five straight girls titles and three straight boys championships, the district sweep was not just another trophy night. It was another sign that Cibola’s pipeline is still feeding talent, still producing familiar names, and still setting the pace for Yuma County track and field.
