Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva launches regular Somerton office hours at City Hall
Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva held constituent office hours at Somerton City Hall, making the location a permanent site for federal casework help important to Yuma County residents.

Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva visited Somerton City Hall to hold constituent office hours and announced that the city hall will now serve as the permanent Somerton location for her district team. The session on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, ran during the advertised block of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and staff met with residents on a range of federal casework and referrals.
Grijalva’s staff provided direct, in-person assistance with Social Security and Medicare questions, passport applications, Internal Revenue Service matters, Veterans Affairs issues and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services cases. KAWC reported that staff met with several residents, including people seeking guidance on immigration issues, and carried photographs of the congresswoman at Somerton City Hall during the start of the office hours.
The office outlined an ongoing presence in Yuma County. KAWC reported that “members of Grijalva’s staff plan to be on site every fourth Wednesday of the month.” At the same time, Grijalva was quoted saying, “Minimally in the area, we’ll be here three times a month.” The two statements differ on frequency; they were both reported from the office and should be clarified by Grijalva’s staff to set resident expectations for recurring sessions.
Prismedia reported that Grijalva’s office notified Yuma County residents on January 5 that the city hall session would take place on January 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Prismedia further noted, “This will be the first chance for district residents to meet her staff since her September election, after a delayed swearing-in in November postponed local office operations.” KAWC also noted that a delay in the swearing-in limited earlier outreach, and that the office is now prioritizing a consistent in-district presence to help residents navigate government services.
Beyond Somerton, Grijalva is working to establish recurring office hours in San Luis and Yuma and to offer virtual office hours to broaden access. The congresswoman emphasized staff capacity to connect residents with help even when an issue is not federal: “Right now, there are so many people that need help, and sometimes you don’t know where to go,” Grijalva said. “Even if it’s not something that is a federal issue, we have the experience in our staff to make those connections.”
For Somerton and the wider Yuma County community, the new permanent location restores an on-the-ground access point for routine federal paperwork and casework after months without local staffing. Residents should watch for confirmed schedules from Grijalva’s office as officials reconcile the reported monthly cadence and announce additional Somerton, San Luis, Yuma, and virtual dates.
