San Luis brings back Asado & Brew Festival for Founders Day celebration
San Luis revived Asado & Brew at Joe Orduño Park, packing Founders Day with 32-plus vendors, local beer and the city’s first Lucha Libre show.

More than 32 vendors, local beer and San Luis’s first Lucha Libre show turned Joe Orduño Park into a Founders Day marketplace as the city brought back its Asado & Brew Festival after weather disrupted last year’s event.
The festival stretched from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. at 965 N. Park Avenue, giving families an eight-hour reason to stay in San Luis, eat in town and move between food stands, live music and competition booths. City leaders have framed the event as more than a one-night celebration, saying it was meant to bring businesses, vendors and visitors into San Luis so they could see more of South County.
That economic push showed up in the details. Vendors accepted cash and cards, but there were no ATMs on site, a sign that the city expected steady foot traffic and steady sales once the crowd arrived. Organizers also set clear limits on what could come through the gates, banning coolers, glass containers, firearms, outside food or alcohol, contraband, illegal substances, personal drones, fireworks and unauthorized vendors.
The entertainment lineup gave the festival a broader civic identity than a standard food fair. Downtime, Amigo Bronco El Tributo, Tiranos del Norte and Grupo Control kept the stage active, while the city added festival awards for Best Asado, Best Side Dish, Best Salsa and Best Stand. Craft drinks came from Prison Hill and High Tanks, tying the event directly to local brewers and the regional food scene.
The Lucha Voz presentation also gave San Luis a new draw. By adding a first-ever Lucha Libre show to a Founders Day celebration, the city mixed cuisine, music and spectacle into a single public event that could help define the border community in a more memorable way.
The festival is already becoming part of San Luis’s calendar, not just a one-off weekend. In 2024, the event featured food vendors, a beer garden, a rock climbing wall and a bounce house, and the competition winners included the San Luis Police Department for Best Asado and Best Stand, Sonoran Ranch for Best Side Dish and the San Luis Fire Department for Best Salsa. That kind of repeat participation, from city departments to local businesses, gives the festival a stronger identity each year and makes Founders Day one of San Luis’s clearest public showcases.
