San Luis Man Convicted of Triple Murder, Sentencing Set for March 27

Ivan Osuna, 43, of San Luis was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder for the September 2022 killings of three people across two Yuma County crime scenes, with sentencing scheduled for March 27.

The murders unfolded over a matter of minutes on the afternoon of Sept. 22, 2022. Around 4:30 p.m., Yuma County sheriff's deputies responding to reports of two people lying on the side of the road near County 13th Street and Avenue F found Kristin Carrillo, 28, and Daniel Herrera, 31, both of San Luis, shot to death. Less than 10 minutes later and roughly seven miles away, deputies were called to the area of 8th Street and Mojave Lane, where Juan Luna-Montijo, 45, of Yuma was found suffering from a gunshot wound. He died a short time later at the hospital.

Detectives identified Osuna as the suspect in all three killings during the course of the investigation, but early on learned he was already in custody in another state on an unrelated matter. An arrest warrant was issued, and on December 12, 2023, more than a year after the murders, Osuna was booked into the Yuma County Sheriff's Office Detention Center on three counts of first-degree murder.

Investigators never publicly indicated a possible motive or whether Osuna knew any of his victims. The Yuma County Sheriff's Office had stated the case remained under investigation at the time of his arrest.
