Somerton's Greater Days Festival Returns to Council Avenue Park This Weekend
Somerton marks 108 years since its founding Saturday with a parade, petting zoo, and live music at Council Avenue Park — cooling stations included for the heat.

A parade rolling down Council Avenue at 9 a.m. Saturday kicks off Somerton's Greater Days Festival, the city's annual spring celebration marking 108 years since its founding.
The festival takes over Council Avenue Park at 801 Council Avenue, with the City of Somerton organizing a full day of entertainment after the morning parade. Live music from the All Mighty Majestics and Los Apson anchors the afternoon programming, alongside food vendors, a kids area with a petting zoo, and a range of beverages.
With temperatures forecast to push into the upper 90s this weekend, organizers built heat mitigation directly into the event plan. "So, we are going to have food vendors a lot of drinks cooling stations because the weather is going to be a little bit hot, so we are going to have cooling stations and kids area with a petting zoo," said Stephanie Pereda, Special Events Director of the City of Somerton.

The 108-year milestone gives this year's festival added weight for a city that has grown significantly from its agricultural roots in the lower Yuma Valley. The Greater Days Festival has served as Somerton's signature civic celebration, drawing families from across the region each spring.
The parade begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Council Avenue Park. No admission information was immediately available from the City of Somerton.
