Free Narcan was made available at five distribution sites across Yuma County to give residents quick access to a life-saving overdose reversal medication and strengthen community response to opioid emergencies.

The effort was led by the Yuma Anti-Drug Coalition in partnership with the Yuma County Public Health Services District. Distribution began Jan. 21 and the coalition’s office, located off W. First Street and N. Second Avenue, will be one of the five weekday pick-up locations. All sites are open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The additional distribution centers are Campesino Sin Fronteras at 720 Main Street, Building B, in San Luis; Community Bridges, Inc. at 3250 E. 40th Street, Building C, in Yuma; Community Medical Services at 201 S. First Street in Yuma; and HOPE Incorporated at 791 Fourth Avenue, Suite B, in Yuma. No appointment or phone call is necessary to receive Narcan at any of these locations.

Naloxone, commonly known by the brand name Narcan, is a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. Making naloxone widely available aims to reduce the time between an overdose and life-saving treatment by empowering bystanders, family members, and first responders with immediate access to the drug.

For Yuma County residents, the program increases geographic reach by including both central Yuma locations and a site in San Luis, giving more households and workplaces a nearby resource. The weekday schedule aligns distribution with normal business hours for schools, clinics, social service providers, and families who may want to pick up nasal naloxone for home or vehicle emergency kits.

The coalition worked with the county public health district to coordinate these sites so distribution is streamlined and accessible across different neighborhoods and service providers. Residents seeking more details were directed to the Yuma County Anti-Drug Coalition website for information about supplies and any updates to hours or locations.

Expanding naloxone access is a practical step toward reducing preventable deaths from opioid overdose in the community. By making Narcan available at multiple, no-appointment sites, Yuma County aims to put a simple, effective tool into the hands of residents so they can act quickly when seconds matter.
