Yuma County Recorder David Lara moved his office down the street to the old Mexican Consulate Building on Main Street, leaving the current building Friday ahead of renovations that are expected to keep staff at the temporary location for roughly a year.

Lara says the transition will not interrupt early voting or any other services the office currently provides. "There shouldn't be a change. Everything's pretty smooth and we already looked at the facility...I had staff look around before I rented it. I wanted to make sure that it would work, that it was up to date as far as elections, and I think we're good," Lara explained.

The Recorder's Office began operating from the rented Main Street building Monday. Lara confirmed that every function performed at the original location will continue at the former Mexican Consulate Building without interruption.

The scope and cost of the renovations to the current office were not disclosed, nor was a specific completion date beyond the approximate one-year occupancy at the temporary site.
