Yuma Family of Seven Displaced After Mobile Home Bedroom Fire

A bedroom fire inside a mobile home near N. 19th Avenue and W. First Street displaced two adults and five children Saturday, April 4, as Yuma Fire Department crews contained the blaze before it spread beyond the room where it started.

Arriving to find smoke coming from the structure, firefighters received no answer at the front door and gained entry through an unlocked rear entrance. Inside, they located and extinguished the bedroom fire, then swept the home for hot spots before clearing the scene. No injuries were reported among the seven occupants or responding crews.

Keeping the fire confined to the bedroom of origin proved significant. Mobile homes carry an elevated risk of rapid fire spread, and YFD's quick containment likely prevented the family from losing the entire structure rather than just a single room.

YFD crews did not simply wrap up after extinguishment. The department continued monitoring the property with drive-by checks in the hours that followed, a precaution taken to guard against reignition from smoldering material.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced family with temporary housing and basic needs. The organization's disaster relief services are designed to bridge the immediate gap while a family works out next steps after losing access to their home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. YFD has not identified a suspected origin or contributing factor, and no official fire-investigation report has been released.

In the aftermath, YFD reminded residents to keep exits accessible, ensure smoke detectors are working, and have a household evacuation plan in place.
