Yuma International Airport has launched the GoodMaps indoor navigation app, offering audio turn-by-turn directions, visual guidance and haptic cues to help travelers navigate the terminal. The app went live with an in-person demonstration on January 29, 2026, as GoodMaps and airport staff invited community members, travelers and the press to test the system.

GoodMaps uses LiDAR and computer vision to map indoor spaces and deliver real-time guidance on phones. The company encouraged attendees to "Download the GoodMaps app on iOS or Android before you arrive and bring your phone to explore the terminal with us." The LinkedIn announcement also said, "GoodMaps is heading to the Sunniest City on Earth, and Yuma travelers are at the heart of it." Complimentary parking validation was offered for attendees during the 2:00–4:00 PM demonstration inside the main entrance on the first floor.

The app targets multiple accessibility needs. GoodMaps provides audio navigation for blind and low-vision travelers and visual guidance for deaf and hard-of-hearing users, and supports more than 20 languages. Christian Dospil, GoodMaps business development representative, described the features in detail: "Arrows on the ground that guide to your destination we have the haptic feedback so if your deaf ad make a bad turn it will let you know: hey look at your phone and double check also have the ability to go step-free if you are in a mobility impaired user as well," said Christian Dospil, Goodmaps business development representative.

Local coverage noted that Yuma International Airport is the first airport in the region to implement GoodMaps' scan-and-go technology. That claim positions Yuma as an early adopter among nearby airports, signaling a potential shift toward more tech-driven, accessible travel at smaller regional hubs.

The airport itself is listed as KNYL - Yuma Marine Corps Air Station / Yuma International Airport - and operates with on-field services that include 100 JET-A fuel, tiedown parking and limited airframe and powerplant service. Those operational details underscore the airport’s role serving both civil and military operations while adding passenger-focused amenities like indoor navigation.

For Yuma County travelers, the practical benefits are immediate: users can pre-download the app on iOS or Android and use their phone to follow arrows, receive haptic nudges and select step-free routing where needed. The launch demonstration was open to families, advocates and local organizations, reflecting the community focus of the rollout.

Longer term, Yuma’s adoption of scan-and-go and sensor-driven mapping could influence how other regional airports prioritize accessibility investments. For now, travelers with mobility or sensory needs have a new tool to reduce stress and missed connections inside the terminal; the next step is wider public use and follow-up from airport officials on uptake and any planned expansions.
