Fresh paint and open trenches marked the start of a busy construction week across Yuma, as the city rolled out a coordinated package of roadway and infrastructure projects beginning March 23 and 24.

The most visible effort is a citywide road striping campaign intended to improve safety and visibility on streets throughout Yuma. Drivers should watch for wet paint, avoid rolling over freshly painted markings, and follow posted traffic control signs and cones wherever striping crews are active.

Alongside the striping, a private contractor started a sewer-line replacement on Avenue 4E between the B Canal and 28th Street. The City of Yuma's road report also lists the project corridor as running from 36th Street to 28th Street. The work adds to a stretch of Avenue 4E that connects agricultural and residential areas on the city's east side.

At 24th Street and James Avenue, crews from Accurate Excavation began concrete collar replacement on a manhole on March 24. Eastbound lanes on 24th Street carry lane restrictions for the duration of the work, which is expected to wrap up by late March. Drivers in that corridor should follow posted traffic control signs.

CenturyLink has been working a separate utility job at 4th Avenue and 32nd Street since January 6, accessing manholes under road closures with lane restrictions. That project was also expected to finish by late March.

Additional work is underway or permitted on Frontage Road between Avenue 8E and Avenue 9E, on 30th Street from Araby Road to Avenue 7E, and on Avenue C between 24th Street and 22nd Lane, where a second private contractor holds an encroachment permit. Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Streets are also affected by additional work, though the full extent of those street-level impacts was not detailed in the city's public documentation.

APS crews are conducting routine maintenance, tree trimming, and survey work at rotating locations throughout the city on an ongoing basis. Because those assignments shift regularly, motorists should be alert to work zones appearing without prior notice and follow all posted traffic control.

The City of Yuma publishes weekly road reports summarizing active projects and encroachment permits; the report covering this batch of work was posted March 19.
