The City of Yuma will hold a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Day on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Public Works facility, 1473 S. 2nd Avenue. The drop-off is free and open to residents; no appointment is required.

Items accepted at the event include motor oil, paint, household cleaners, antifreeze, solvents, pesticides and fertilizers, and most batteries other than lead-acid batteries. Tires are accepted with a limit of five per household; tires must be off the wheel and delivered with no rims. Electronic and e-waste accepted include home computer components, TV sets, VCRs, cell phones, home phones and small appliances.

The City will not accept business or commercial waste, explosives, ammunition, pressurized gas, lead-acid batteries such as car or boat batteries, radioactive waste, prescription drugs or needles. Residents with questions or who need instructions are asked to contact the City’s Public Works Department at 928-373-4500 or email publicworksadministr@yumaaz.gov.

For Yuma County households, the collection day offers practical and environmental benefits. Proper disposal of household hazardous materials reduces the risk of contamination to local groundwater and waterways, limits hazards for sanitation and recycling workers, and decreases the likelihood of illegal dumping. The event also lowers financial and logistical barriers for residents who otherwise might retain or improperly discard hazardous items.

Because the collection day is restricted to residential waste, small businesses and commercial generators will need to pursue other disposal options. Residents transporting items should review the list of accepted and nonaccepted materials and contact Public Works if they are unsure whether a specific item will be taken.

The one-day event is part of ongoing efforts by municipal services to keep hazardous materials out of regular waste streams and to support community health and environmental stewardship. Residents planning to take advantage of the drop-off are reminded the event runs only four hours on Saturday; for more information call 928-373-4500 or email publicworksadministr@yumaaz.gov.
