Desert Sun Stadium will transform into Yuma's centerpiece for America's semiquincentennial this spring, when the City of Yuma hosts "Yuma Salutes America's 250: A Star-Spangled Celebration," a live concert event timed to the nation's 250th birthday and built around what organizers are calling a once-in-a-generation occasion.

The event is scheduled in April, with the City choosing that window deliberately to take advantage of Yuma's spring weather before the summer heat sets in. The evening opens with hometown artist Bobby McClendon on live music, followed by remarks from Mayor Doug Nicholls. Multi-platinum hitmaker Randy Houser, whose voice The New York Times once described as "wholly different, thicker and more throbbing," racked up three consecutive No. 1 hits with his album "How Country Feels." He closes the night as headliner. In between, Parmalee, a North Carolina country band with five No. 1 singles to their name including "Carolina," "Take My Name," and "Just the Way," takes the stage before a patriotic drone show bridges the two headliners.

MCAS Yuma's Color Guard will open the formal program, with Wendy Lobeck McKay performing the National Anthem. The full entertainment package also includes a dedicated kids zone, food vendors, non-alcoholic beverages, and beer for sale on the grounds.

"Yuma Salutes America's 250 is a great opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy live music, family activities, and a patriotic celebration," said Special Events Assistant Kathy Urfer. "We're excited to bring this event to Yuma as part of this historic national milestone."

General admission seating is first-come, first-served, and guests may bring blankets and chairs for use on the field. Tickets are priced at $25 plus taxes and fees, with children 12 and under admitted free. Tickets are still available online at yumaaz.gov/america250, in person at the Parks and Recreation Department in City Hall, or at the event itself.

A clear bag policy will be in effect. Clear bags are available for purchase in advance at the Parks and Recreation Department in City Hall, the Yuma Art Center, or at the gate.

The April concert is not the City's only nod to the milestone year. Yuma's annual Fourth of July celebration will continue later in 2026, and that event will feature an expanded fireworks display specifically in recognition of America's 250th birthday.
