15-year-old girl injured in Forsyth County Abundant Life Church hit-and-run
15-year-old Janelle Francois was struck by a black SUV after leaving a Wednesday youth service at Abundant Life Church; the driver fled the scene.

A 15-year-old girl identified by family as Janelle Francois was struck by a black SUV in the parking lot of Abundant Life Church on Strickland Road after a Wednesday night youth service, and the driver fled toward Atlanta Highway, Forsyth County investigators say. Multiple outlets report the collision occurred around 8:45 p.m. on Jan. 14 and that people inside the SUV did not stop.
Family members told reporters Francois had left the church and sat near the back of the parking lot to wait for a ride when the SUV came toward her, according to her mother, Guileine Francois. Stacie Miller with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office described the vehicle as, "it was a black SUV." Witnesses and deputies said the vehicle exited the church parking lot and traveled toward Atlanta Highway on Strickland Road after the impact.
Medical accounts vary across reports. WSB-TV, 95.5 WSB and AccessWDUN said Francois was taken to a local hospital and remained hospitalized and recovering in the days after the crash, with AccessWDUN noting she "remains as of Feb. 3, being treated for injuries." A later report published by Yahoo said Francois spent about two weeks in the hospital and has since returned home, adding that she had been placed on a ventilator and suffered damage to her lungs, liver and intestines and a fractured skull.
