9th Bum Run Returns to Poʻipū March 7 to Fight Colon Cancer
Grand Hyatt Kauaʻi and Poʻipū Bay Golf Course host the ninth Bum Run March 7; silent auction opens 7:00 a.m., run begins 7:30 a.m., proceeds benefit American Cancer Society Relay For Life Kauaʻi.

The Grand Hyatt Kauaʻi Resort & Spa and Poʻipū Bay Golf Course will host the ninth annual Bum Run Kauaʻi on Saturday, March 7, a family-friendly, scenic roughly 2.5-mile fun run and walk that raises funds for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life Kauaʻi. Silent-auction bidding opens at 7:00 a.m., organizers say, and the walk/run begins at 7:30 a.m.; Kauai Now listed the day’s activities in a 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. event block.
Organizers are advising participants to arrive early to register and to enjoy a light breakfast. ACTIVE’s event listing asks participants to arrive by 7:20 a.m. and notes race-day registration is available from 7:00 to 7:20 a.m. for an additional $5. ACTIVE also states the race is not timed and describes the course as “Approx. 2.5 mile trail.”
Registration through the ACTIVE registration platform lists fees at $40 for adults and $20 for ages 6–17, with team discounts of 10% for teams of four or more. There is a discrepancy in child pricing between outlets: ACTIVE lists “Kids 5 and under free, strollers welcome,” while Kauai Now states “FREE for kids under 5 years.” ACTIVE further notes that registration fees are non-refundable. For clarification on the child-age policy, race-day surcharge or refund rules, organizers can be reached by email at infokauai@hyatt.com or by phone at (808) 240-6436.
The event carries a personal origin and a health message. Aloha State Daily recounts that “When Diann Hartman of Grand Hyatt Kauaʻi Resort & Spa was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer nine years ago, her colleagues offered support by spearheading a community event to raise funds and awareness for cancer research, screening and treatment.” Kauai Now framed the March timing as part of Colon Cancer Awareness Month and wrote, “March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month. It is now the number one cancer killer of people under 50. It’s highly curable and highly preventable with screening.”

Fundraising features include a silent auction with hotel stays, restaurant certificates and activities; Kauai Now urged readers, “Don’t want to walk or run? All good, but you won’t want to miss the amazing silent auction with hotel stays, restaurants, activities and more.” ACTIVE’s event copy highlights on-site hospitality with the banner “COFFEE, SNACKS, DOOR PRIZES & SILENT AUCTION,” and Aloha State Daily recommends arriving at 7:00 a.m. to get settled and enjoy a light breakfast.
The Bum Run returns as a community reminder — Kauai Now’s promotional call puts it plainly: “Kauaʻi, get your bum in gear!” Residents who want to sign up should use the ACTIVE registration platform (search “Bum Run”) or contact the Grand Hyatt Kauaʻi at infokauai@hyatt.com or (808) 240-6436 for registration questions and to confirm final details. Proceeds from the day will support the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life Kauaʻi.
