Abbotsford Signs Christian Felton to One-Year AHL Deal After PTO Stint

Abbotsford signed defenseman Christian Felton to a one-year AHL contract for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, the club announced on March 5, 2026. Felton had been with the club on a professional try-out after Abbotsford initially added him to the roster on Jan. 16, 2026, and the organization elevated the Medina, Ohio native from PTO status to a standard AHL deal.

The PTO announcement in January carried the club’s direct language: “Abbotsford Canucks General Manager, Ryan Johnson, announced today that the club has signed defenceman Christian Felton to a professional try-out agreement.” That same Jan. 16 release recorded a corresponding roster move: “In a corresponding move, Ryan Johnson also announced that the Abbotsford Canucks have released defenceman Phip Waugh from his professional try-out agreement.” Felton spent the weeks after that signing skating with Abbotsford before the March 5 contract conversion.

Felton comes into the AHL deal on the back of a 2025-26 ECHL stint with the Utah Grizzlies in which he appeared in 30 games, scoring 3 goals and adding 6 assists for 9 points while accruing 15 penalty minutes and a minus-1 rating. Utah’s club site noted his first professional goal for the Grizzlies came Oct. 19 at Atlanta and that “Felton is the ninth Grizzlies player this season who has also spent time on an AHL roster.” His pro experience also includes 13 regular-season games for Abbotsford in 2024-25 and a 7-game spell with the Kalamazoo Wings where he recorded 1 assist that same season.

Collegiately, Felton logged four NCAA seasons split between Bentley University and Merrimack College, totaling 98 games, 7 goals and 10 assists for 17 points and 44 penalty minutes.
