ABSS Names JoAnna Gwynn Assistant Principal at Graham High and Middle

The Alamance-Burlington School System posted on June 24, 2025 that “The Alamance-Burlington School System announces Ms. JoAnna Gwynn as the new Assistant Principal at Graham High School and Graham Middle School,” an ABSS Webmaster announcement that places Gwynn in administrative roles on both Graham campuses.

ABSS’s biography on the district site says Gwynn is returning to ABSS after previously serving as a Freshman Seminar Teacher at Walter M. Williams High School, and that her career “spans multiple districts including Caswell County Schools and Rockingham County Schools.” The district posting lists that she most recently served as Assistant Principal at Reidsville High School and is “currently serving as Interim Assistant Principal at Broadview Middle School,” indicating a string of leadership roles in nearby school systems.

The ABSS announcement includes Gwynn’s academic credentials and certifications: a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a Minor in International Studies from Greensboro College, Middle Grades Certification for 6-9 Social Studies, a Master of School Administration from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University, an Education Specialist degree from Gardner-Webb University, and an NCPAPA Distinguished Leadership in Practice Certification. The post also lists awards and recognition tied to Gwynn’s career, including N.L. Dillard Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2009 and Wells Fargo District Principal of the Year in 2015 and 2017, and notes her role as a keynote speaker at the DPI Assistant Principals Leadership Conference.

Public records assembled for this report also include a Greensboro College alumni note that states, verbatim, “JoAnna Gwynn ’05, Pelham, has been named the new superintendent for Caswell County Schools, effective July 1, 2024. She has worked for the county as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and director of human resources.” A truncated ABSS social post captured in the packet reads, “[Instagram]: #ABSSUpdates | The Alamance-Burlington School System has appointed Joanna Gwynn as Principal of Graham High School. She previously served as” and an earlier excerpt in the research materials says, “Alamance-Burlington School System announced Joanna Gwynn as the new principal of Graham High School. The official announcement was posted on February 24.” Those entries use the Joanna spelling and the title principal rather than assistant principal.

The June 24, 2025 ABSS Webmaster posting is the district’s explicit personnel announcement for Graham High School and Graham Middle School. At the same time, the Greensboro College entry and the other items in the packet present differing job titles, dates, and spellings of Gwynn’s name, and the materials do not include a resignation date or end of service for the July 1, 2024 Caswell superintendent item. The conflicting public records leave Gwynn’s recent employment chronology and preferred professional name styling unresolved, while the ABSS posting stands as the district’s official statement naming her assistant principal at the two Graham campuses.
