After ShotSpotter alert, multiple suspects fire into southeast Fresno complex; man critical
A man was shot inside his apartment at the Ranchwood(s) complex in southeast Fresno after a ShotSpotter alert around 1:20–1:30 a.m.; Fresno Police say multiple suspects fired rounds and no arrests have been made.

Early Monday morning, Fresno Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation at the Ranchwood Condos/Ranchwoods Apartments near the intersection of Winery and Lane after reports that multiple rounds were fired into a residence, and a man inside was struck and taken to a hospital. National Today reported officers arrived around 1:20 a.m., while ABC30 and the initial alert placed the response around 1:30 a.m.
According to Fresno police Lt. Marcus Gray II, multiple suspects entered the Ranchwoods Apartments complex and fired rounds into a residence, striking the male victim. ABC30 reported that the victim was struck while inside his apartment and that officers found the man with a gunshot wound to the upper body when they arrived.
Accounts diverge on the victim’s condition. National Today and the original early brief described the man as being transported to the hospital in critical condition, while ABC30 said he was taken to a nearby hospital and his condition remained unknown at the time of that report. No name, age, or further identifying details have been released by police.
Residents in the Winery and Lane area told reporters they heard numerous gunshots, and ABC30 noted there were multiple 911 calls of a shooting in addition to the ShotSpotter activation. National Today also reported that detectives recovered evidence at the scene and are continuing to investigate, though neither outlet published a police log or incident number with the initial accounts.
Fresno Police have not released suspect descriptions and no arrests were reported in early updates; the original summary of the incident stated, “no arrests or suspect details released yet.” ABC30 reiterated that “anyone with information is asked to call Fresno police,” but a tip line number was not provided in the initial coverage.
The incident sits within a broader local public-safety conversation. National Today notes that “Gun violence and shootings in residential areas are an ongoing public safety concern in Fresno, which has struggled with high rates of violent crime,” and its takeaway framed the shooting as underscoring “the need for continued collaboration between law enforcement, community leaders, and residents to address the root causes and find solutions to make the city's streets safer.”
Detectives assigned to the case are continuing to gather evidence, interview witnesses and review any available surveillance video from the Ranchwood(s) complex on Winery and Lane. Fresno Police have been the only agency named publicly in initial reports; further details on the number of suspects, weapon type, or motive have not been released.
