Alec Baldwin Filming Crosshairs in Downtown Birmingham Sparks Local Production Buzz
Alec Baldwin was seen on Morris Avenue as crews filmed Crosshairs on Tuesday, March 3, with prop NYPD cars dressing downtown Birmingham as a New York backdrop.

Alec Baldwin was spotted on a Morris Avenue set as crews filmed the movie Crosshairs in downtown Birmingham on Tuesday, March 3, WBRC confirmed. WIAT reported production crews transformed parts of downtown into what looked like a New York City backdrop, with NYPD vehicles lining the streets as cameras rolled.
Eyewitness accounts and social posts placed the activity at different times of day: Reddit and Bham Now users described sightings on Tuesday morning, while WVTM reported, “Baldwin was seen Tuesday afternoon along Morris Avenue with a film crew.” One of WBRC’s photojournalists captured video and spoke to crews on Morris Avenue, providing on-the-ground corroboration of the date and location.
Local coverage and social media named other personnel tied to the shoot. WVTM and Bham Now noted comedian Jim Gaffigan as a co-star in the project, and WIAT identified producer Rob Barnum as working on the film. WIAT quoted Lee Shook, director of Film Birmingham, saying, “It certainly puts some attention on us as a filmmaking city, and so that’s always really exciting,” and, “Birmingham can double as anywhere, basically.” WBRC reached out to Film Birmingham but reported the office was unable to share much information due to policy.
Casting activity for Crosshairs has rippled through town in recent weeks. WVTM reported, “Goleman Casting has posted several calls in recent weeks seeking background actors and extras for roles from police officers and reporters to joggers and dog walkers.” Social posts and submitted photos circulated in Reddit’s r/Birmingham and via local submissions to Bham Now; WVTM noted a Facebook post that showed Baldwin on set with a young actor named James Jay Alexander, described as having a role in the movie.

Community reaction ranged from casual surprise to civic pride. WIAT quoted area resident Cathy Wood: “I went out on the back balcony and I was like, ‘Hey, Alec Baldwin’s in the backyard.’” Wood added, “Living right here where all the action is is great. It’s just fun to watch film productions back there. There have been quite a few on the street.”
Birmingham’s appearance on Crosshairs comes amid ongoing efforts to attract film and television work. WVTM and WIAT cited Alabama’s competitive tax incentives as factors in the city’s recent production activity, and Bham Now reported the Birmingham City Council approved allocating $160,000 to Create Birmingham in January to support creative-industry economic development. WIAT also relayed Shook’s observation that producer Rob Barnum “has made eight movies in the city,” underscoring repeat producer interest.
No official production statement or full shooting schedule has been released publicly; WBRC and other outlets labeled coverage an ongoing story and said they would update as more information becomes available. For now, the Baldwin sighting, prop NYPD cars, casting calls, and local funding measures have combined to create a noticeable production buzz in the Magic City.
