Alleged Intruder Shot by Homeowner Walks Into Pahrump Family Dollar

Nye County authorities identified a 48-year-old Pahrump resident, Shawn Richard, as the person shot twice in the chest by a homeowner during an alleged home invasion at a residence on the 6000 block of Kellogg Road, KTNV reported. KTNV said the homeowner heard Richard in the kitchen, armed himself with a handgun, and fired after Richard kicked in the bedroom door.

KTNV reported investigators tied the incident to an earlier theft on the 8000 block of Ralph Court, where police received a Wednesday report that an unknown male had broken into a residence and fled with a shotgun. KTNV said the shotgun had been stolen the night before the Kellogg Road shooting and that Richard was found in possession of that firearm when officers arrived.

Arriving law enforcement transported the wounded man to UMC Trauma with "serious injuries," KTNV said. Separately, KPVM reported that on Feb. 25 a man "suffering multiple gunshot wounds walked into a Family Dolla[r]," and that KPVM reporters and local emergency medical responders were on scene at the Pahrump Family Dollar. Authorities have not publicly confirmed whether the man KPVM described is the same person identified by KTNV as Shawn Richard.

KTNV said investigators discovered Richard was in violation of his parole and listed a slate of possible charges he could face if he survives: probation violation, home invasion, grand larceny of a firearm, burglary, and prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Nye County police told KTNV that they determined the homeowner acted in "lawful defense of his home" and that the homeowner "will face no charges."

The KTNV account places the sequence across two days: a Ralph Court break-in on Wednesday followed by the Kellogg Road shooting on Thursday, though the outlet used day-of-week references rather than calendar dates in its report. KPVM provided a calendar date for the Family Dollar appearance as Feb. 25, 2026. Officials have not released a single consolidated timeline tying the Ralph Court theft, the Kellogg Road shooting, and the Family Dollar report together in public documents supplied so far.

Detectives with the Nye County Sheriff’s Office presented details at a KTNV-cited news conference, and the office has characterized the homeowner’s actions as defensive. Investigators continue to develop the case, and KTNV reported that formal charges are expected to depend on the wounded man’s medical outcome. The sheriff’s office has not named the homeowner; the wounded man’s current condition beyond initial transport to UMC Trauma has not been publicly released.
