The Hampton County Sheriff’s Office is seeking 17-year-old Zy’Marian Jaquese Barker of Allendale in connection with a shooting that occurred Feb. 18 on Brunson Street in Brunson, part of the Brunson/Scotia area. Barker is wanted on charges of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and officials say the investigation remains active and ongoing.

HCSO issued a late-February wanted advisory naming Barker and warning the public not to confront him. “Barker should be considered a dangerous individual and should not be approached,” the sheriff’s office said in the advisory. The office also extended its deepest condolences to families affected by this tragic incident as investigators continue to develop leads.

BlufftonToday and WSAV report Barker’s full name as Zy’Marian Jaquese Barker and list Allendale as his hometown. The advisory did not provide a physical description, a photo in the release, or details about the number or condition of victims from the Feb. 18 shooting. Authorities have not disclosed whether Barker will be processed under juvenile court rules or whether he has legal representation.

A separate development at the Brunson scene involved 17-year-old Amir Terrion Singleton of Garnett. BlufftonToday reports Singleton arrived at the scene and turned himself in to deputies, was taken into custody without incident, and was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Singleton was transported to the Hampton County Detention Center and was denied bond at a Feb. 23 bond hearing.

Earlier, in January, law enforcement responded to unrelated shootings in the Estill area, including incidents on Grayson Street and Frankie Bennett Circle. WJCL reported two victims in the Estill incidents were stable and expected to make a full recovery, and that the Estill Police Department arrested a juvenile on attempted murder and related charges on Jan. 12. SLED, Hampton Police, Varnville Police, Yemassee Police, and the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office were thanked for assisting in those investigations.

Hampton County authorities are urging anyone with information about Barker’s whereabouts to contact the sheriff’s tip line at 1-866-942-1120 or submit an anonymous tip through the sheriff’s website or the office’s mobile app. H.C. Sheriff Anthony Russell said, “This is a tragic situation that has affected multiple families and our community. We are committed to conducting a thorough and complete investigation. I want to thank all agencies who provided assistance.” Investigators said they will release additional information as it becomes available.
