Ance Collins Arrested After 16-Mile Perry County Chase Ends in Ditch
Ance Collins, 49, of Krypton was arrested after a roughly 16-mile chase that ended when his red Chevrolet S‑10 entered a ditch and became disabled on Briar Fork Road.

Ance Collins, 49, of Krypton was arrested after a roughly 16-mile pursuit that ended when his red Chevrolet S‑10 pickup entered a ditch and became disabled on Briar Fork Road, Kentucky State Police said. Collins was taken into custody and lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail, authorities reported.
Kentucky State Police Post 13 said, “At approximately 2:11 p.m. on March 3, troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Chevrolet S‑10 pickup truck at Combs for multiple traffic violations. After troopers activated their emergency equipment, the driver, later identified as Ance Collins, failed to comply and fled the scene.”
Police say Collins led troopers on the pursuit for about 16 miles from the Combs community before the truck went off the roadway. Hazard‑Herald quoting KSP reported, “Collins led troopers on a pursuit lasting approximately 16 miles, during which he struck police cruisers multiple times.” The chase ended when the pickup “became disabled after entering a ditch,” KSP said.
Local deputies and Kentucky State Police personnel were on scene when Collins was taken into custody. Multiple outlets reported the arrest was completed “without further incident.” Collins was booked into the Kentucky River Regional Jail; media releases and booking logs list his residence as Krypton in Perry County.
Authorities have lodged serious charges against Collins. Hazard‑Herald’s KSP paraphrase lists first‑degree wanton endangerment (police officer), fleeing or evading police, and traffic violations. Other outlets, including Fox56 and WYMT, additionally reported charges of reckless driving and “numerous additional traffic violations” alongside wanton endangerment and fleeing or evading police.
A passenger in the pickup was treated for minor injuries at Hazard A.R.H. (Appalachian Regional Healthcare Hazard), and no other injuries were reported, KSP and local coverage said. WTVQ/ABC36 noted investigators described Collins as having struck police cruisers several times during the pursuit; the stations also reported the investigation remains ongoing.
KSP’s Post 13 time stamp (approximately 2:11 p.m. on March 3) is the most specific official timing available; some reports described the incident as occurring “Tuesday afternoon” and an earlier draft referenced March 4. Kentucky State Police and Kentucky River Regional Jail records are the primary sources for the timeline, charges and custody status as the case moves toward formal charging and court processing.
