Arrest Made in Downtown Gallup Fatal Hit-and-Run Killing Native American Woman
Police arrested Robert Dixon, 32, after an unidentified Native American woman was struck on Junker Bridge in downtown Gallup and later died; her family had not yet been notified.

An arrest has been made in the fatal hit-and-run that left an unidentified Native American woman dead on Junker Bridge in downtown Gallup. Gallup police say the collision occurred late Thursday night, Feb. 25, 2026, and the woman died at a hospital after emergency medical personnel transported her.
Gallup officers responded to a "person down and out" call and found the woman in the roadway on Junker Bridge, Capt. Marinda Spencer of the Gallup Police Department said. Spencer said emergency medical personnel were called and the woman later died at the hospital; authorities have not released her name or age.
The investigation led officers to a vehicle they believe was involved, which they found parked at Sports Page Bar, Spencer said. Police arrested Robert Dixon, 32, of Church Rock, New Mexico, "on site," according to Spencer.
Dixon was booked into the McKinley Adult Detention Center and faces three charges as reported by the Gallup Police Department: homicide by motor vehicle; aggravated driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor; and duty to give information and render aid. The department has not provided information about any vehicle description, license plate, or physical evidence tying the vehicle to the collision in the public report.
Spencer added the victim’s family had not yet been notified at the time of the report, and police are continuing to investigate the incident. The public report does not state whether Dixon was administered a breath or blood test, whether results exist, or whether surveillance or witness statements led investigators to the Sports Page Bar location.
The case remains in active investigation with several factual gaps: the Gallup Police Department has not released the hospital name where the woman died, the nature of any forensic link between the vehicle and the victim, or the exact time of the collision beyond "late Thursday night." Booking records list Dixon at the McKinley Adult Detention Center; court filings and arraignment details were not included in the department statement.
Capt. Spencer is the named Gallup Police Department contact who provided the arrest and charging information in the department's account of the incident. Police say they will continue investigating the circumstances of the hit-and-run and the evidence that led them to Dixon's vehicle at Sports Page Bar.
