Baker City DMV Closed This Morning for Staffing Shortages, Reopens 2 p.m.
Customers at the Baker City DMV at 3370 10th St. encountered a morning closure for staffing; the office was scheduled to reopen for in-person service from 2-5 p.m. on March 4, 2026.

Customers at the Baker City DMV office at 3370 10th St., Suite A, found the doors closed the morning of March 4 after DMV personnel announced a staffing shortage and said the office would reopen for in-person services from 2-5 p.m. Elkhorn Media Group reproduced the DMV statement that apologized for the disruption and urged eligible transactions be done online or delayed until the afternoon reopening.
“The Baker City office will be closed this morning due to staffing. The office will be open from 2-5 pm today. We apologize for any inconvenience and encourage customers to go online to do eligible transactions or wait to come in until the office opens.” This language was published by Logan Bagett for Elkhorn Media Group on March 4 and reflects the DMV personnel notice informing customers of the temporary closure.
Official hours listed on the Oregon DMV office page show regular hours at Baker City as 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, with a daily mid-day closure from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.; MapQuest repeats the 10 a.m. Wednesday start and the 12:30-1:30 p.m. break. A private aggregator, DMVConnect, lists Wednesday hours as 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., a discrepancy from the Oregon.gov schedule; Oregon DMV and GovDelivery are the authoritative sources for official hours.
Practical services and requirements at the Baker City office include drive tests by appointment only, with customers required to provide proof of insurance for road tests, and counters for licenses, ID cards, titles and registration work. The office accepts cash, checks, debit cards, mobile payments, Discover, MasterCard and Visa. MapQuest notes the office is easily accessed from I-84 and 10th St. OR-30, and Oregon.gov provides accessibility guidance — customers needing accommodations should contact their local DMV, Portland-metro callers can use 503-299-9999, and statewide relay for deaf or hard-of-hearing callers is 711.
The closure on March 4 follows a prior GovDelivery notice from May 29, 2025, that said Baker City would close June 6, 2025 for facility work and reopen June 9 with new adjustable counter stations; that notice also directed customers to the La Grande and Ontario offices during that closure and promoted DMV2U, the online portal that offers more than 20 services. GovDelivery also provided REAL ID planning guidance, noting it can take up to three weeks to receive a REAL ID card by mail and warning of heavier demand at DMV offices.
For customers with questions about transactions or office status, the Oregon DMV customer line remains 503-945-5000; media inquiries can be directed to Chris Crabb at 971-304-9705. The DMV’s March 4 notice and the May 29, 2025 GovDelivery message both encourage checking the office status before visiting and using DMV2U when possible to avoid delays or having to travel to La Grande or Ontario during disruptions.
