Baker City man hospitalized, arrested after hit-and-run rollover on Highway 7
A 26-year-old Baker City man was ejected and hospitalized after fleeing a reported hit-and-run and crashing a mile down Highway 7 near Milepost 50.

A Baker City man was ejected from his vehicle, hospitalized and later arrested after fleeing a reported hit-and-run on Highway 7, Oregon State Police said. At around 5:13 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, OSP responded to a reported hit and run along Highway 7 near Milepost 50 on the outskirts of Baker City.
OSP identified the driver as 26-year-old William Jerret Konop of Baker City. The agency’s press log summary states that Konop reportedly fled the initial scene and "crashed a mile down the road, being ejected from the vehicle in the process." Emergency responders transported Konop to a hospital; the press log does not list the facility or describe the severity of his injuries.
Konop was arrested following the crash and booked on multiple counts, according to the OSP summary. "Konop’s full charges at the time of arrest included: DUII – Intoxicants; Reckless Driving; Reckless Endangering Person; Criminal Mischief II; Fail to Perform Duties of Driver in Collision with Prop Damage (2x); Criminal Mischief I (2x)." An earlier line in the press summary also noted he was "arrested for DUII Alcohol, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, Hit and Run and Criminal Mischief II."
The sequence recorded in the press log shows officers responding to the initial hit-and-run report, then locating the crash scene approximately one mile down Highway 7 where the vehicle had rolled over. OSP requested a non-preference tow and Baker Valley Towing responded to remove the vehicle from the roadway, the log notes.

Public records released so far do not name any other injured parties or specify whether property or another vehicle was struck at the first location where the hit-and-run originated. The press log lists two counts of "Fail to Perform Duties of Driver in Collision with Prop Damage" and two counts of "Criminal Mischief I," which indicate alleged property damage, but details on what was damaged and the locations involved are not included in the current summary.
OSP’s press log, as summarized in the public account, also omits vehicle make, model and license information, whether seatbelt use was a factor in the ejection, and which agency completed booking paperwork. No booking numbers, bond amounts or court dates have been released in the material provided to date.
Investigators and prosecutors will need to supply the remaining details for a complete public record: attending hospital and medical status, formal charging documents with statute references, the identity of any initial hit-and-run victims, and towing and impound records for the vehicle removed by Baker Valley Towing. Until those records are released, the sequence of a reported hit-and-run, a one-mile pursuit or flight, a single-vehicle rollover and the arrest of 26-year-old William Jerret Konop remain the confirmed elements available from the OSP press log summary.
