Barista Champion Mariam Erin Unveils Binocular Dripper for Wet Blending
Barista champion Mariam Erin launched the Binocular Dripper, a dual-cone pour-over that enables wet blending for experimental and competition brewing.

Mariam Erin, UAE barista champion, unveiled the Binocular Dripper at World of Coffee Dubai, introducing a manual brewer built for experimentation and tight recipe control. The device uses two tall, narrow cones designed to accept V60 02 paper filters so brewers can run two separate extractions side by side and merge the flows in real time. The technique, known as wet blending, lets users brew two different coffees with independent doses, grind settings, and brew recipes before combining the extractions into a single cup.
The Binocular Dripper targets multiple audiences. Competition baristas gain the ability to reproduce and practice complex competition pours that blend origin character and roast profile mid-pour. Cafe owners and lead baristas get a tool for precise texture and flavor layering during service, especially when developing signature blends or calibrating how single-origin shots play with milk. Home brewers who enjoy dialing in grind, ratio, and pulse pour sequences can experiment without buying separate brewers or committing to full-batch blends.

Design specifics make the brewer familiar but distinct. Each cone is tall and narrow to encourage controlled flow and even extraction, and compatibility with V60 02 filters preserves access to a wide range of filter brands and routines. The dual chambers give baristas independent control over variables that normally must be merged at the grinder or roast level, such as dose and grind distribution. That level of control changes how brewers approach balance, acidity management, and body in a single cup.
Commercial availability began through Brewing Gadgets, with initial deliveries starting on January 18. Retail information and regional availability are handled by the retailer; check Brewing Gadgets for purchase options and shipping updates. The public debut at World of Coffee Dubai allowed judges, competitors, and cafe buyers to handle prototypes and see wet blending executed in a trade-show setting, which could accelerate adoption among specialty cafes and competition teams.
Practical uses go beyond headline styling. Baristas can use wet blending to subdue an overly bright origin by pairing it with a rounder counterpart, to fine-tune sweetness and finish, or to create gray-area signature beverages that blur single-origin and blend lines. For competitors, the brewer shortens the feedback loop between concept and rehearsal: dial a pair of recipes, compare merged cups, tweak grind or pour cadence, and repeat. For home brewers, the Binocular Dripper opens a new avenue for tasting and learning without complicating workflow at the grinder.
Expect recipe sharing and community rounds to appear quickly: brew guides, recommended ratios, and competition-style scripts will help translate the Binocular Dripper from a trade-show novelty into a practical tool behind counters and at kitchen tables. If you want to test wet blending in a cafe or at home, check Brewing Gadgets for stock and start thinking in pairs of coffees rather than single cups.
