Bayern Munich Stun Real Madrid 2-1 at the Bernabéu in Champions League
Harry Kane and Luis Díaz struck to give Bayern Munich a stunning 2-1 first-leg victory at the Bernabéu, leaving Real Madrid facing a deficit heading to Munich.

Bayern Munich arrived at the Santiago Bernabéu as road underdogs and departed with a 2-1 Champions League quarterfinal first-leg victory that puts Real Madrid in unfamiliar territory ahead of the return fixture in Munich on April 15.
Luis Díaz broke the deadlock in the 41st minute, converting a precise through ball from Serge Gnabry to beat goalkeeper Andriy Lunin and catch Madrid's defense flat-footed. Bayern then compounded the damage almost immediately after the restart when Harry Kane, set up by Michael Olise, finished from the edge of the box to make it 2-0 within seconds of the second half beginning — a body blow delivered at a pace Madrid had no answer for.
Kylian Mbappé gave the hosts a lifeline in the 74th minute, turning in a low cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold at the far post to pull one back and set up a tense final quarter-hour. Manuel Neuer, authoritative throughout, produced several crucial saves to preserve Bayern's advantage and deny Madrid an equalizer.
Kane reflected on the result afterward, telling TNT Sports he was "really happy" with the win. "We knew before the game all the hype around it," Kane said. "Coming to Madrid and the Bernabéu and trying to get a result is always a difficult thing to do. We played some really good stuff today. Overall, we can be really happy with the win." Lunin, for his part, told Movistar that at least one Bayern goal was avoidable, though he felt his side "reacted well to going behind."
The Bernabéu has served as European football's most formidable fortress for decades, lending Bayern's disciplined road performance additional weight. With UEFA having abolished the away goals tiebreaker in prior seasons, both legs now stand as standalone opportunities to build momentum, and Bayern have seized theirs convincingly.
Real Madrid will need to score at least twice in Munich while keeping a clean sheet to advance without extra time. Whether their attacking unit, with Mbappé and Alexander-Arnold as catalysts, can crack Neuer's defense at the Allianz Arena will be the central question when the two sides meet again on April 15.
