Benny Dixon Jr. charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter in fatal February stabbing
Cumberland County prosecutors charged 41-year-old Benny Dixon Jr. of Millville with first-degree aggravated manslaughter after the Feb. 16 stabbing death of 35-year-old Detyren Hatch; a detention motion and a Monday hearing are pending.

Cumberland County prosecutors announced March 6 that Benny Dixon Jr., 41, of North Second Street in Millville, faces first-degree aggravated manslaughter and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the Feb. 16 stabbing death of 35-year-old Detyren Hatch. Prosecutors filed a motion to detain Dixon pending trial, and a court appearance related to that detention request is scheduled for Monday, officials said.
Authorities say the incident occurred Feb. 16 at a residence on the 500 block of North Second Street in Millville, a location cited by the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office and reported by NBC10, Patch and Shore News Network. NBC10 reported that Hatch was taken to a hospital around 9 p.m., and the prosecutor’s office summarized the case this way: "An investigation is underway after a man was killed in a fight at a home in Millville, New Jersey, on Monday, Feb. 16."
Accounts differ on medical transport and the hospital where Hatch died. Shore News Network reports Hatch was transported to Inspira Medical Center Vineland and later died of his injuries. Patch and NBC10 state Hatch was initially taken to Inspira and then flown to a second facility, identified by Patch as Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he succumbed to his injuries. Reporters and officials should confirm the hospital of death with the prosecutor’s office or hospital public information officers.
The Millville Police Department and the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit are conducting the homicide investigation, led publicly by Prosecutor Jennifer Webb‑McRae, who was named in NBC10’s coverage of the charging announcement. Shore News Network noted that the charges followed the investigation and reiterated the detention motion and Monday hearing date without specifying the calendar date.

Patch previously reported no arrest had been announced immediately after the Feb. 16 incident; the March 6 charging announcement reflects the prosecutor’s office action since that initial reporting. The detention motion remains active and court records or the prosecutor’s office can confirm Dixon’s custody status, arraignment schedule and the exact date and time of the Monday detention hearing.
