Blizzard Details CATACLYSM Community Events, Pre-Release Brawl, Balance Changes
Players can play a rented Deathwing and open CATACLYSM packs early in the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl from March 10–17, with Community Days offering up to 8 free packs and Theorycrafting drops on March 5–6.

Players can jump straight into CATACLYSM gameplay during the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl, which runs March 10–17 and lets everyone play a temporary Deathwing, Worldbreaker hero while opening packs early ahead of the expansion’s March 17 launch. “The Deathwing, Worldbreaker Hero Card will be available for everyone to play in the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl, even if you don’t own it yet, so you can jump straight into CATACLYSM and the new Herald mechanic! Please note that this is a temporary rental,” Blizzard wrote, and it confirmed that Herald will be present in the Pre-Release format.
Blizzard set up a cluster of viewing events that hand out free packs. Community Days run from March 10 at 10:00 a.m. to March 14 at 10:00 a.m. PT and enable category-wide Twitch Drops that hand out eight packs total: five Across the Timeways packs and three CATACLYSM packs. PlayHearthstone copy and Blizzard summaries use the shorthand “2 hours per drop” for these Community Days drops, while other documents preserve PT/PST labels in schedules.
Theorycrafting livestreams happen March 5–6 with regional windows and category-wide Drops active from March 5, 9:00 a.m. to March 6, 9:00 a.m. PT. NA / LATAM / EMEA viewers get March 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. PST, while APAC viewers get March 6 from 2:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. PST. “Twitch Drops will be enabled category-wide from March 5, 9:00 a.m. to March 6, 9:00 a.m. PT, so you can watch any Hearthstone stream you’d like to earn up to 2 CATACLYSM packs (make sure you link your Twitch and Battle.net accounts so that your viewing time counts towards the drops),” the post advised. Blizzard’s detailed thresholds list 60 minutes of watch time for the first pack and 150 minutes total for the second pack; PlayHearthstone sometimes summarizes this as “2 hours per drop,” so viewers should watch the specific schedule for their region. Theorycrafting casters include Sottle, Raven, Odemian, and HaiSayaka, and participating streamers will have Pre-Purchase Mega Bundle codes to giveaway.
The final card reveal aired March 3 at 11:00 a.m. PT on PlayHearthstone Twitch and YouTube with Brian Kibler hosting alongside Hearthstone Designer Cora Georgiou. “Today at 11:00 a.m. PT, the last CATACLYSM cards will be revealed on our Twitch and YouTube channels, closing the reveal season,” the announcement said; Twitch and YouTube drops on that stream award one CATACLYSM pack after 20 minutes of watch time on each platform.

Blizzard also previewed Patch 35.0 balance changes that will be active during Theorycrafting and the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl. “Rounding things out, we have a handful of balance changes coming to Standard with Patch 35.0. These updates will be active during our Theorycrafting and Pre‑Release Tavern Brawl events. They are in addition to our usual balance adjustments for cards rotating into Wild. Keep an eye out for the full 35.0 Patch Notes for details on those changes,” the post said. New mechanics were highlighted as well; a YouTube excerpt explains Shatter: “When you draw a card with Shatter, it breaks into two pieces that move to opposite ends of your hand. You can play the pieces separately, but if you manage to bring them back together by playing the cards in between, they recombine into a single card that’s doubly strong.”
The community reward track runs through the CATACLYSM Rally Point from February 9 to March 17, with the community goal unlocking a free Legendary Ebyssian and two Signature copies of Envoy of the End if all dragonflights are unlocked. Regional Arabic localization material also confirms additional login and event rewards, including Warlord Blackthorne on login, three bonus event-quest cards, and teases of free hero skins and card backgrounds. With multiple time-zone labels (PT, PST, PDT) used in event copy, players should verify start times for their region and link Twitch and Battle.net accounts to ensure viewing time counts toward Drops. Expect the full 35.0 Patch Notes before March 10 for exact balance lists and the final Pre-Release card removals that Blizzard says will keep older dominating cards out of the format.
