Buena Vista County Pork Producers Banquet Honors Awards, Scholarships, Community Outreach
Justin Mason of Mason Auctions was named Merchandiser of the Year at the Cobblestone Ballroom banquet, where the Pork Producers presented over $9,000 in scholarships.

The 2026 Buena Vista County Pork Producers Banquet was held at the Cobblestone Ballroom and drew pork producers, local business leaders, youth, and community supporters." The event at the Cobblestone Ballroom in Storm Lake honored local business involvement and agricultural outreach, with "The Merchandiser of the Year award went to Justin Mason of Mason Auctions."
The banquet took place Feb. 12, 2026, and organizers noted the evening "was well attended" by producers and community supporters from across Buena Vista County. The program combined awards with updates on education and charitable efforts, reflecting the Pork Producers' year-round promotion work in the county.

The Pork Producers described the total as more than $9,000, though individual award amounts were not specified at the banquet.
Pageantry and youth engagement were part of the program. "The 2026 BV County Pork Queen is Jaelyn Hartnett, daughter of Tony and Malynda Hartnett. She is a junior at Storm Lake High School." Youth representation extended to elementary grades as well: "Miss Pigtails is Alyson Hartnett, daughter of Charlie and Lexi Hartnett and Samantha Barahona. She is a fourth grader at Storm Lake Elementary School and the niece of Jaelyn Hartnett."

Ag education received a visible boost at the banquet when the group presented a check to the classroom program. "Amy Forrette, Ag in the Classroom Educator, was presented with a check from the Pork Producers. At left is Aron Nieland." The organizers did not disclose the check amount during the presentation; Forrette and local schools are expected to use the donation to support K-12 agricultural programming in Storm Lake and surrounding communities.
Organizers reviewed recent outreach and set plans for the year ahead, noting, "We did holiday radio ads to promote our industry for both Pork Month (October) and the Holodays (December)." They also reported recognition for community engagement: "This past January we received community involvement recognition from the Iowa Pork Producers." Looking forward, the group said, "For 2026 we will again be making pork in the Pantry donations as well as having a local fabricator make new meal cut signs to go over our charcoal grills. We are getting ready for our upcoming grilling season."
The Buena Vista County Pork Producers used the Cobblestone Ballroom banquet to highlight ties between producers, local businesses such as Mason Auctions, schools including Storm Lake High School and Buena Vista University, and charitable programs that supply pork to area pantries and classrooms.
