Buena Vista Regional Board Approves $20M Medical Office Building in Storm Lake

Buena Vista Regional Medical Center’s Board of Trustees voted to move forward with plans for an approximately 30,000-square-foot medical office building on the hospital campus in Storm Lake, with the project estimated at about $20 million and slated to break ground this spring and be completed next year. The hospital announced the plan on its website Feb. 24, 2026, and local coverage followed Feb. 26–27.

The facility will be sited just north of the hospital’s main entrance on the BVRMC campus, and hospital leaders say the building will bring all UnityPoint Clinic Family Medicine providers and the BVRMC Pharmacy together under one roof. Hospital materials describe the colocation as intended to create a more efficient, patient-centered environment and to modernize primary care services for patients across the region.

BVRMC CEO Rob Colerick provided the hospital’s public rationale for the project, saying, "the new medical office building is an important investment in making the medical center both the best place for physicians to practice and the best place for patients to receive care. He says providing primary care teams with modern, purpose‑built spaces will help ensure accessible, high‑quality health care for years to come."

Buena Vista Regional has served the region for more than 70 years and offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, hospital leaders note, and they frame the new office building as part of an ongoing commitment to community-focused health care. The hospital’s news post listing the project was filed by "admin" on Feb. 24, 2026 on the BVRMC site.
