The Chatham County Health Department's 2nd Annual Super Community Baby Shower is set for Saturday, March 28, bringing raffle prizes, health screenings, free diapers, and more to expecting families across the Savannah area. The event runs from 10 a.m. to noon in the auditorium at Savannah Tech, 5717 White Bluff Road.

Thirty community vendors will be on hand sharing resources and giveaways, with highlights including free blood sugar and blood pressure screenings, free diapers and wipes while supplies last, over $2,000 in raffle prizes, WIC sign-ups, and free breastfeeding support and consultations. Attendees can also pick up information on safe sleep, breastfeeding, nutrition, and car seat safety, and sign up for infant safe sleep classes, with a free pack-n-play available for eligible participants.

Katee Sykes, public health educator with the Chatham County Health Department and the event's organizer, described the motivation behind staging it a second time. "Last year's super community baby shower was a huge success, so we started planning for another one right away," Sykes told WSAV's Kim Gusby on Community Corner. "The Savannah area has so many great organizations and resources that are ready to support our local families. This event is a fun way to bring the families and the programs together."

The event is designed to provide expecting mothers and caregivers with healthy resources, including information on safe infant practices and practical handouts. The goal, in Sykes' words, is to make resources available "that just make having children a little easier and help soften the financial burden."

The community baby shower is free and open to pregnant women as well as families with children up to age 5. No registration is required, and children do not need to be present to attend. There is no cost and no documentation required to walk through the door.
