Clash Royale update arrives late February with UI overhaul and free hero
Players get choice over a free hero, no duplicate max-level cards, and Quickplay QR matches as the Q1 update begins rolling from February 23 with Trophy Road pushed to 14,000 trophies.

Players looking for a free hero option and relief from duplicate max-level cards will see those changes arrive as Supercell’s Q1 update rolls out from February 23, with broader UI and progression overhauls announced in RoyaleAPI’s Feb. 19 roadmap coverage. Shanethegamer frames the rollout as kicking off a wider 2026 roadmap that responds to months of player feedback around progression, Heroes, rewards, and overall balance.
Social and local play get direct fixes in the update with Quickplay letting players scan a QR code or share a link to join instant Level 11 capped matches and to add friends, according to Shanethegamer, which called this “a clear push to make Clash Royale more frictionless socially, especially for casual and local play sessions.” Multiple Quickplay modes will be available and the feature is positioned to simplify pickup matches at events and meetups.
Competitive structure changes land alongside social improvements: Global Tournaments return with a simpler format that unlocks at Arena 3 and now appears directly in the Game Mode Switcher, with rewards strictly performance based and the Top 1,000 players earning a Hall of Fame placement and exclusive badges. To celebrate 10 years of Royale, an Anniversary Tournament begins March 27 and Shanethegamer also says new Arenas and a full Anniversary Album event are on the way.
Under the hood, the update includes a Pathfinding 2.0 overhaul to troop movement. RoyaleAPI described pathfinding as “how we call the engine that powers troop movements. It’s what directs troops towards the nearest targets other movements in the arena.” RoyaleAPI added that “One of the priorities with this pathfinding update is to preserve interactions as they were. If you don’t notice significant changes, that’s a good sign!”

Balance work that preceded the February rollout came in Supercell’s January 12 blog of balance changes and RoyaleAPI’s WIP lists. Supercell nerfed Hero Knight’s shield hitpoints from 819 to 768 and wrote, “Together with his Triumphant Taunt, Hero Knight’s shield provided too much stalling power. We’re happy with his overall strength, so we’re just giving his shield a bit of a trim.” Hero Mini P.E.K.K.A’s healed damage was lowered from 40 percent to 30 percent and Mini P.E.K.K.A hitpoints dropped from 1,433 to 1,390 with Supercell noting, “Mini P.E.K.K.A was already one of the best tank killers before he became a Hero, but then he started overcooking everything. We’re reducing his Hero form’s healing and his good old self’s hitpoints to cool him down.” Supercell also adjusted Evolved Skeleton Barrel death damage from 238 to 220 and explained, “Evolved Skeleton Barrel has been running rampant in spell-bait decks, dealing too much damage to both troops and towers. Its death damage will no longer be enough to take out troops like Minions.” Dart Goblin damage fell from 156 to 151 with the rationale, “Dart Goblin has been a staple in many spell-bait decks in recent months, so a lower damage output eases the pressure when counters are limited.” Buffs included Little Prince damage rising from 99 to 104 and Furnace hit speed improving from 1.8 seconds to 1.7 seconds, with Supercell saying, “Little Prince has been living in the shadow of other Champions, so we’re increasing his damage to help him hold his own for a while before needing a rescue,” and “Furnace has been left in the cold by more reliable ranged cards. Increasing its hit speed will give it a more consistent damage output.”
Economy and progression changes will be a flashpoint. RoyaleAPI warns the Q1 changes “add up to significant reductions to monthly progression,” and says reductions are mainly aimed at cards and Gold while noting Evolution Shards per season remain unchanged. Historical precedent underlines the scale: the RIP Chests analysis for the 2025 Q1 update shows Free Gold falling from 1,185,000 to 463,000 (−61 percent), Elite Wild Cards down from 10,910 to 5,650 (−48 percent), and total EWC value for Free rewards halved from 197,900 to 99,400.
Timing and gaps remain to be clarified. Shanethegamer lists the special deck slot system being streamlined in March with special slots dropping from four to three and says the change applies across Trophy Road, Ranked, and Challenges, but the “new structure” details are missing from the excerpt. The free hero distribution mechanic will be adjusted from a random unlock to one that supports player choice, but Supercell’s final rollout mechanics have not been published. Expect full patch notes from Supercell to confirm the deck slot new structure, exact free-hero mechanics, and any further UI progression specifics ahead of the March 27 Anniversary Tournament.
