Copperas Cove delays trash and recycling collection after MLK Day holiday
City facilities will be closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day; trash and recycling collection will shift across the rest of the week for residents.

Copperas Cove has announced a temporary shift in trash and recycling collection as the city observes Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In a media release posted Jan. 12, city officials said all Copperas Cove facilities will be closed Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, and that the Solid Waste Transfer Station will also be closed that day.
Residents should expect a one-day delay for municipal residential pickup and note the adjusted schedule for the remainder of the week. On Tuesday, Jan. 20, Areas 1 and 2 will have their regular trash pickup, while Area 2 will also receive recycle, brush and bulk collection. Wednesday, Jan. 21, moves trash collection to Areas 3 and 4, with Area 4 receiving recycle, brush and bulk. Thursday, Jan. 22, covers trash for Areas 5 and 6 and recycle, brush and bulk for Area 6. Friday, Jan. 23, completes the week's adjusted pickups with trash for Areas 7 and 8 and recycle, brush and bulk for Area 8.
Commercial trash customers will see no change; collections for businesses will follow their normal schedules. The city urged residents with questions about facility closures to contact City Hall at (254) 547-4221, and to reach Solid Waste with collection questions at (254) 547-5245.
The closure of the transfer station can affect residents who planned to drop off yard waste or large items on Monday. With brush and bulk collection shifted to specific areas later in the week, households that normally use the transfer station should delay those trips until the facility reopens or hold items curbside until the scheduled brush and bulk days for their area. Curbside carts and bins should be set out according to the adjusted neighborhood schedule to avoid missed pickups.
For Coryell County residents who share routes with Copperas Cove or who coordinate bulk disposal visits around city holidays, the temporary changes underscore the importance of checking municipal schedules ahead of holiday weeks. Adjusting pickup preparation by a day and securing loose items will help prevent litter or extra pickup calls to city crews.
The takeaway? Treat next week like a one-day holiday shuffle: don't plan transfer-station drop-offs Monday, put carts out on your revised collection day, and call City Hall or Solid Waste if you're unsure which area you're in. Our two cents? Mark your calendar now so you don't end up with a surprise pile at the curb.
