Cryptic illustrations spark fan speculation over Outside Lands 2026 lineup
Outside Lands posted a three-slide Instagram carousel on Feb. 25 with Halsey Berryman illustrations - banana slugs, a capybara and a magic 8-ball that fans tied to specific acts.

Outside Lands stirred a familiar ritual of fan sleuthing when it shared a three-slide illustrated carousel on Instagram, captioned "This year's lineup clues are hidden with the natural wonders of Golden Gate Park and the Bay Area," shared Wednesday, Feb. 25. The Washington, D.C.-based artist Halsey Berryman is credited with the designs, and the festival will return to Golden Gate Park Aug. 7–9, 2026 for its 18th edition.
Images in the carousel prompted immediate name-matching across social media. Reddit users flagged a white cowboy hat as evidence for Kacey Musgraves, summed up in the comment "Kacey and her white cowboy hat." A capybara drew the shout "JENNIE: Capybara" from one thread, while another post declared "DJO - Magic 8 ball (Decide album cover this is a lock)" linking a magic 8-ball image to Joseph Keery's solo project DJO. A bucket hat was connected to Earl Sweatshirt in the exact wording "Earl Sweatshirt (he’s been seen wearing similar type bucket hats to this one in particular)."
Media summaries added other possible matches and cautions. Yahoo noted the post uses the song "Do The Astral Plane" by Flying Lotus and explicitly reported that the song "is not a clue." Yahoo also listed dumplings, a green boot, leopard lilies and a duck among the featured items and highlighted fan theories that dice could reference Baby Keem's new album "Casino," banana slugs might point to Santa Cruz native Oliver Tree or Magdalena Bay's "Slug Song," and chopsticks could nod to rapper Freddie Gibbs' 2020 album Alfredo.
Speculation spread beyond single-artist guesses to lineup shape and timing. Fans urged swift confirmation with "Lineup dropping next week! (Apparently)" and some attempted to map headliners, as one Reddit post predicted, "I would bet The Killers end up headlining. They fit the well-known rock headliner slot (Green Day, foo fighters)." Another user sketched a stage breakdown, writing "I can for sure see OSL being - RHCP/Dua Lipa/The Killers all on lands end with Future x metro boomin/Jamie xx/MGMT all on Twin Peaks." Wry takes also circulated, including "They couldnt book Geese so they booked Ducks instead," and an Instagram commenter summed up confusion with "Ugh another year of never understanding these clues."
Regulars invoked festival history to judge plausibility. Reddit thread lists "Tame Impala 12, 15, & 21" and "Beck 08, 12, 18, & 25" were cited to argue that repeat-booking patterns and an informal three-year-gap rule make some returns unlikely. Outside Lands has encouraged engagement with on-platform polls, captured in the call to action "Take The Poll!" and ongoing discussions in subreddits such as r/OutsideLands, r/MusicFestivals and r/DjoMusic.
Local coverage reflected the mix of art and rumor. The San Francisco Chronicle ran a piece headlined "Outside Lands drops first clues of 2026 lineup - and fans are confused" and credited photographer Camille Cohen. SFGate reported on the clues the following day. With fans anticipating a formal lineup release in the first week of March, the illustrated teaser has sharpened focus on which Bay Area and international acts could appear when Outside Lands returns to Golden Gate Park in August.
