Cumming dedicates intersection to volunteer Sgt. Rob Muth

The City of Cumming on Jan. 12 dedicated the intersection of Castleberry Road and Buford Dam Road as the Sergeant Rob Muth Memorial Intersection, installing a sign at the site where a volunteer traffic director was fatally struck last month. Family members, local officials and public-safety representatives attended the ceremony as the city formally honored Muth’s service to the community.

Sgt. Rob (Robert) Muth was a retired law enforcement officer who was volunteering as a traffic director for the Cumming Christmas Parade on Dec. 13 when he was struck by a vehicle. He died of his injuries on Dec. 14, 2025. The city’s choice to place the memorial at that intersection ties the commemoration directly to the location where neighbors and emergency crews converged during the tragic event.

Sheriff Ron Freeman, Mayor Troy Brumbalow, members of the Cumming city council and representatives of local emergency services attended the dedication. Family members said they had “no idea what it has meant for us” after the outpouring of community support, reflecting how personal grief and public recognition intersected at the ceremony.

The installation of the sign—simple and visible at the corner of two well‑traveled roads—serves both as a remembrance and a reminder.
