Danville Canine Corral Closed for Winter Moratorium, Reopen Dates Disputed
Danville’s Canine Corral remains under a winter moratorium with town postings giving both Feb. 28, 2026 and March 2, 2026 as reopen dates, leaving owners unsure as of March 2, 2026.

The Canine Corral at Hap Magee Ranch Park in Danville is still closed under the town’s winter moratorium, and municipal postings disagree on when it will reopen. The Town of Danville issued an official news flash saying the dog park “was closed for the winter moratorium and that it was scheduled to reopen on February 28, 2026, weather permitting,” while the town’s Dog Park page states, “The Canine Corral will be closed for Winter Moratorium from December 1, 2025, to February 27, 2026. The Canine Corral will reopen on March 2, 2026 weather permitting.”
The conflicting dates follow a moratorium window that the town site lists as Dec. 1, 2025 through Feb. 27, 2026, with the Dog Park conditions link explicitly noted for live status updates. Town pages also repeat a status line that reads, “The Dog Park at Hap Magee Ranch Park is Open. (Closed every Tuesday until noon),” creating further confusion when compared with the civic alert and third-party listings.
Routine maintenance closures are another area of disagreement. The Town of Danville’s dog park information says, “During the normal usage season, the Canine Corral at Hap Magee Ranch Park is closed for maintenance every Tuesday until noon. This closure will allow maintenance work to be completed at the site while minimizing the impacts on the user groups.” By contrast, a March 12, 2025 guide by Gina Piper states the park is “closed on Wednesdays for maintenance until 3:00 pm (or until maintenance work is completed),” so owners should verify the current weekday schedule before planning visits.
Practical details for visitors remain consistent across sources: the Canine Corral sits at 1025 La Gonda Way and is described by Gina Piper as “a spacious 1.5-acre off-leash dog park featuring separate sections for large and small dogs,” with grassy play areas, benches, and water features. Sniffspot and other listings reproduce town rules: “Children under 8 are not allowed, and those between 9 and 16 must be accompanied by an adult,” and “All dogs must have a current license and vaccinations, and female dogs in season are not allowed.” The listing also records operational rules including “leashing when entering/exiting, cleaning up after dogs, and a maximum of three dogs per handler,” and warns that “the town is not liable for injuries, and reserves the right to close for maintenance.”

Owners seeking confirmation can contact Maintenance Services at 925-314-3450 or email jstarnes@danville.ca.gov, and the town encourages residents to “Sign up for email and text alerts and select ‘Sports Field Conditions’ or ‘Dog Park Notifications’ - Notifications are sent any time the park CLOSES or REOPENS for the winter moratorium or wet weather.” An Instagram post noted that “The Canine Corral at Hap Magee Ranch Park is getting ready to reopen ... Nearby dog park options during the closure include: • Alton,” but did not give a definitive reopen message.
Until Danville consolidates its civic alert and dog park pages, the official reopen date remains disputed; rely on the town’s Sports Field and Dog Park Conditions page, alerts via the town’s sign-up system, or direct confirmation at 925-314-3450 or jstarnes@danville.ca.gov before traveling to Hap Magee Ranch Park.
