Deer Valley has opened a new signature run named Redemption as part of its Expanded Excellence buildout, adding a roughly three-mile descent reachable from the East Village Gondola, Revelator Express, and Pinyon Express. The run debuted with a Sunday grand opening and first tracks secured by skier Lucas Catania before the 9:15 a.m. ceremony, and Deer Valley credits snowmaking for enabling the launch.

The arrival of Redemption comes amid a major resort expansion that Deer Valley says has added more than 100 new runs and 10 new lifts since December 2024, including seven new chairlifts and a 10-passenger gondola. The resort is also promoting day-to-day perks tied to the expansion: Deer Valley lists 132 ski runs open this season, and passholders who ski and scan can buy Turkey Chili at East Village Lodge for $1.32 at that run count, rising to a planned $2.02 as the resort reaches its full 202-run goal. Unofficial Networks reports half-day tickets are currently priced around $131, and Deer Valley has expanded parking at East Village to 1,200 day-skier spaces.

A sharp divide has emerged over who Redemption is intended for. Resort materials and Unofficial Networks describe Redemption as a double-blue advanced intermediate run with dramatic views of Jordanelle Reservoir and surrounding peaks. On the other hand, on-mountain observers and community posts describe expert-scale terrain. Jillian Vogtli of Deer Valley characterized the ridge as, "It’s steep and hairy," adding, "There’s nothing else like it in Deer Valley, and it gives expert skiers something all their own." One reporter who visited described Redemption Ridge as a bowl with half a dozen fingers, more than 2,000 feet of sustained vertical, and mandatory cornice drops on many lines.

Local reporting and community posts flag safety concerns. A local account described narrow pitches lined with bamboo poles and ski patrol rope to keep skiers from cliffed ravines, and recounted an unrelated medical transport where ski patrol, Wasatch County Ambulance, and ER staff handled on-mountain care. A Reddit poster warned that Redemption is "comparable to Jordanelle" and called it "steep, narrow, unforgiving, icy," reporting a collision on opening morning and urging, "If you’re still doing wedge turns, please stay off redemption."

For practical planning, Redemption can be reached from East Village lifts and may include black-diamond offshoots even if parts are rated intermediate. Snowmaking and grooming allowed the resort to open the line early, but conditions can turn intermediate pitches into expert challenges. Todd Bennett, Deer Valley Resort President and COO, framed the rollout as a way for guests to "experience and celebrate the progression of our Expanded Excellence initiative in real time," and said each new run reveals more of the resort’s long-range vision.

Check Deer Valley’s official trail map and ski patrol advisories before heading to Redemption, and consider current snow and crowding when choosing lines. Expect more clarity from resort operations on official ratings and vertical measurements as the season settles and additional snow arrives.
