Democrat John V. Holder III Qualifies for Forsyth County Board of Education
John V. Holder III, a Cumming ICU nurse and father of six, has qualified to run as a Democrat for the District 1 seat on the Forsyth County Board of Education.

John V. Holder III has qualified to run for the District 1 seat on the Forsyth County Board of Education, adding a Democratic contender to a local race that the campaign says will prioritize student safety and mental health. Holder lists Cumming, GA as his base and frames his candidacy around his experience as an ICU nurse and a parent.
On his campaign website Holder uses concise taglines to summarize his pitch: "Dad. ICU nurse. Community advocate." The site also urges voters to "Vote John Holder - steady leadership, compassionate service, and clear priorities for our schools." The campaign text adds that "John Holder brings calm, steady leadership to high-pressure situations - supporting patients, families, and colleagues when it matters most."
Holder's entry comes as the District 1 field begins to form after a series of recent candidate forums on taxes, career education, and housing affordability. The campaign and an Instagram post both indicate Holder is speaking publicly about his priorities; the Instagram post says the "Forsyth County Board of Education District 1 race is taking shape" and that Holder "shared his priorities and his reasons for running in an interview."
Family and local ties are central to Holder's messaging. His campaign states, "John and his wife Kasey are the proud parents of six children - five girls and one boy - all graduates or future graduates of Forsyth County Schools." The same campaign copy describes Kasey as "also an ICU nurse and a United States Marine Corps veteran," presenting both spouses as healthcare professionals with Forsyth County school experience within their family.

Holder lays out concrete issue areas on his campaign pages. He writes that, "As a healthcare professional and parent, he understands the real challenges facing today's students and educators - student safety, mental health, supporting teachers, and keeping students at the center of every decision." The site further lists priorities under headings including "Student Success" and language such as "Common sense. Southern values. A voice of reason" and calls for "steady, thoughtful leadership focused on students, teachers, and responsible planning."
The race is set within the broader 2026 midterm contests, and Holder's qualification formally places him on the path toward the local ballot. Voters in District 1 can expect campaign events and debates this year that focus on the student-safety, mental-health, and teacher-support themes Holder has emphasized.
