Microsoft and Discord are turning a long-running partnership into a sharper subscription pitch. Discord Nitro now includes a starter edition of Xbox Game Pass where available, giving paid members access to more than 50 PC and Xbox games, plus 10 hours of cloud gaming.

The move is less a one-off perk than a platform strategy. Xbox said the companies were “teaming up again” as they continue to make Game Pass more flexible for players, building on a relationship that already brought Discord voice chat to Xbox consoles in 2022 and later added live streaming into Discord friends’ feeds. Eligible users can also press a Play button from a friend’s stream or game activity to jump straight into supported Game Pass titles, tying discovery more tightly to social play.

For Discord, the new program, called Nitro Rewards, gives subscribers something tangible beyond badges and profile flourishes. TechCrunch reported that the bundle is available to both Nitro Basic, which costs $2.99 a month, and full Nitro, priced at $9.99 a month. The starter edition includes games such as Fallout 4, Stardew Valley and Day Z, along with discounts of 15% to 30% on selected Logitech G, SteelSeries and KontrolFreek hardware.

Stanislav Vishnevskiy, Discord’s co-founder and chief technology officer, framed the change as a retention play, saying Nitro has always been about meaningfully upgrading the Discord experience without limiting free users in a large way, and that the new rewards are meant to improve subscriber value and retention. That language makes the business logic plain: rather than charging users for access to a separate gaming service, Discord and Microsoft are packaging utility into a subscription many younger, online-native players already keep open all day.

The timing matters. Microsoft cut Game Pass prices on April 21, lowering Game Pass Ultimate from $29.99 to $22.99 a month and PC Game Pass from $16.49 to $13.99, while also saying future Call of Duty titles would not join Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass at launch. Against that backdrop, the Discord bundle helps Microsoft make Game Pass feel broader and more flexible without depending only on price cuts.

Xbox said Game Pass subscribers will soon get Discord Nitro benefits as well, including 250 Discord Orbs each month, 1.2x extra Orbs on Quests, and automatic Discord Shop discounts. That symmetry shows how both companies are using perks to keep users inside their own ecosystems. For players, the offer has real value if they already use Discord and want an inexpensive way into Game Pass. For Microsoft and Discord, it is also a low-cost way to deepen habit, raise retention and keep gaming identity anchored where friends already gather.
