Dolores County Sheriff’s Blotters Report Multi‑Week Arrests, Montezuma County Detention Center Bookings
$1,000 vanished from a deposit envelope at the Yellow Jacket Post Office, and multiple people were booked or served warrants at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
A consolidated Montezuma County sheriff's blotter dated March 5, 2026 lists a $1,000 mail‑theft report at the Yellow Jacket Post Office, 22009 Road 18, and several recent bookings and warrant services at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St. The blotter and additional sheriff’s entries labeled Oct. 24 and Oct. 31 show arrests, citations and ongoing investigations across Dolores, Cortez and Towaoc.
The blotter records a mail‑theft report at 12:57 p.m. in which "$1,000 cash [was] missing from a deposit envelope that was returned with his check," and states, "There are currently no suspects." A separate theft report at 7:34 p.m. on North Seventh Street in Dolores noted a hunting bag containing several knives and other items missing from the back of a truck parked overnight, and the blotter said, "There are no suspects at this time."
Montezuma County Detention Center activity is prominent in the entries. A 10:25 p.m. blotter line states, "A man arriving at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., via transport company was arrested on a warrant." Other detention‑center entries labeled Oct. 24 and Oct. 31 list a woman arrested on a Cortez Police Department warrant for contempt of court at 1:14 a.m., a man served with a Cortez PD warrant for failure to comply at 7:19 p.m., and a woman served with a warrant for failure to appear on several traffic infractions at 8:27 p.m. The Oct. entries do not include a year on the blotter headings; the date labels are Oct. 24 and Oct. 31 and should be treated as separate items unless further verification links them.
Traffic enforcement and unusual seizures are noted in Dolores. At 5:44 p.m. at Third Street and Railroad Avenue a deputy stopped a truck after a reckless‑driving report; the blotter says the driver "was cited for no valid driver’s license, no insurance and expired plates more than 60 days," and that "A Ute Mountain Ute tribal officer seized an improperly tagged cow elk in the truck bed." In the 500 block of Railroad Avenue a juvenile was issued a summons at 9:44 p.m. on suspicion of DUI and prohibited use of a weapon, and "A shotgun was reportedly found in his possession when he was contacted."

Multiagency responses appear in the blotter. Deputies assisted Bureau of Indian Affairs officers in a pursuit that fled through Towaoc and ended at a residence on Green Cedar Lane; the blotter reports, "The man resisted while holding his young daughter but was taken into custody by BIA." In Cortez, a deputy at 5:30 p.m. responded to East Speedway, 2320 E. Main St., where "a man walking along Highway 160 threw an object that damaged a passing vehicle’s emblem and sensors, with estimated damages over $1,000."
Other local incidents recorded include a 3:45 p.m. towing of a 1990 Chevrolet van with two bicycles from Joe Rowell Park as abandoned; a 2:22 a.m. call in the 13000 block of Colorado Highway 145 in which deputies found a woman unconscious on a back porch and, "apparently highly intoxicated from what deputies believed to be marijuana," and who was taken to Southwest Memorial Hospital after the homeowner declined to press charges; and a 2:14 p.m. report at Salvation Army Thrift Store, 302 Central Ave., Dolores, in which the store owner said a man had egged the building but deputies were "unable to identify the man from security footage" and the "case remains under investigation."
The blotter entries provide no names, booking numbers or bond information. Several items reference the same detention center address but list different times and charges; these appear to be discrete incidents unless officials confirm otherwise. The entries also note tribal and federal involvement in specific incidents; local authorities and agency press offices should be contacted to verify charges, court dates and the status of active investigations.
