Enigma raises $70 million to simplify robot control

Enigma AI Labs raised $70 million in seed funding with Index Ventures and Ribbit Capital leading the round and Sarah Guo’s Conviction Partners participating. Guo founded Conviction in 2022 after leaving Greylock, where she became the firm’s youngest general partner at 28.

At the Upfront Summit conversation recorded on Feb. 26, 2025 and posted on March 24, 2025, she discussed what kinds of AI companies stand out. She favored infrastructure that can sit underneath real-world workflows rather than another chat interface. Vertical robotics hit a turning point in 2024, and 2025 brought a realignment toward autonomous fleets.

Robot control is nearing a usability breakthrough. In practice, that means stripping away the friction that has kept robots in the hands of specialists: low-level motion tuning, force calibration, perception glitches and task-by-task reprogramming. A control layer that is truly as easy as adjusting the volume would not make the robot itself smarter; it would make changing its behavior feel like using a simple interface, rather than editing code or rewriting control parameters for every new job.

Force control, planning and perception remain core problems in robot manipulation, and a 2026 systematic review of AI in robot manipulator control shows the field still spans classical control, adaptive methods and machine-learning approaches. Simpler software can reduce operator complexity, but it does not erase safety validation, edge cases or the need to match a robot to a specific environment.

Figure AI raised $70 million in its first external funding round in May 2023, led by Parkway Venture Capital with Aliya Capital and Bold Ventures participating, and said the money would support research and development of Figure 01 for warehouse tasks. Enigma must prove that a cleaner control interface can shorten deployment timelines and broaden who can run robots, not just make demos look elegant.
