Enrique Acevedo Barocio Charged with Intoxication Manslaughter in Pierce Street Fatality
A 27-year-old man was charged with intoxication manslaughter after a speeding SUV struck and killed a pedestrian on Pierce Street, raising safety concerns for EaDo residents.

Enrique Acevedo Barocio, 27, was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter after a blue Ford Expedition struck a female pedestrian and multiple parked vehicles near the 2400 block of Pierce Street, Houston police said. The crash occurred late Sunday night around 11:30 p.m., and Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
In a Houston Police Department release, officers named Sgt. M. Barrow and Officer D. Thompson as the reporting officers and said, "A blue Ford Expedition was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed near the above address when the driver struck a pedestrian and several parked vehicles." The release states, "The suspect, Enrique Acevedo Barocio, 27, is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 497th Criminal District Court." It also notes, "The identity of the deceased female, 32, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences."
Police arrested Barocio at the scene after officers observed signs of intoxication. The HPD release says, "The driver of the Ford, Enrique Acevedo Barocio, showed signs of intoxication. The Harris County’s District Office was consulted and he was subsequently charged and taken to the Harris County Jail." A booking photo was attached to the city release and local outlets published his mugshot. Harris County records and reporting by the Houston Chronicle list bond at $250,000 and indicate Barocio remained in Harris County Jail with a court appearance scheduled the following week.
Local television accounts and other reporters added scene details that the HPD release did not quantify. Fox26 and Click2 reported the SUV struck as many as five parked vehicles and that the pedestrian was carried or dragged along the roadway; those descriptions are attributable to those outlets. Click2 also published a differing reference to the victim's age, describing her as in her 20s, a discrepancy from HPD's 32-year figure. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences remains the lead agency for confirming identity after family notification.
The collision occurred near Pierce and St. Charles Street in the East Downtown, or EaDo, nightlife corridor, a densely used stretch for late-night foot traffic. The crash underscores ongoing local concerns about pedestrian safety, speed enforcement and late-night traffic around bars and clubs. HPD's Vehicular Crimes Division is handling the investigation; incident identifiers in the city release include Inc. #014503126-D and release code ECR/JKS 2-3-26.
For Harris County residents and patrons of the EaDo entertainment district, the case signals likely follow-up from law enforcement and the courts. Reporters will seek the HPD crash report, Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences confirmation of identity, any toxicology results, and charging documents from the 497th Criminal District Court as the next steps in the public record. The community should expect updates from HPD and Harris County officials as investigators and prosecutors develop the case.
