Eugene, Springfield Could See Light Snow Next Week; Timing, Amounts Forecast
Eugene has a 1% chance of getting 2 inches or more during the 4 a.m. Feb. 17–4 a.m. Feb. 19 window; NWS predicts about 0.1 inch of snow in Eugene on Feb. 18.

A cold system expected to move through the Willamette Valley and parts of Lane County next week could bring light snow or flurries to Eugene and Springfield, the Register‑Guard reported Feb. 12. The local framing reflects National Weather Service guidance republished in Yahoo that narrows timing and amounts for valley and mountain locations.
The NWS outlook raises the strongest concerns for the Cascades, where “NWS forecasts more snow in the Cascades, where snowfall is predicted every day from Feb. 13 to Feb. 18.” In the high country, Willamette Pass “has between a 50% and 60% chance of getting at least a foot of snow next week,” a forecast that could affect Highway 58 and winter recreation access across Lane County.

For western Oregon from the coast to the Cascades foothills, the NWS window is tighter: there is a chance of freezing temperatures and snowfall from Feb. 16 to Feb. 18, and forecasters say “a little of this snow may stick.” In Eugene specifically, the NWS characterization runs day by day: the agency predicted “less than a 10% chance of snow Feb. 16, "likely" snow Feb. 17 and "occasional" snow Feb. 18.”
Quantitative odds for the city remain small but nonzero. The NWS assessment gives Eugene “a 1% probability of seeing 2 inches or more of snow 4 a.m. Feb. 17 to 4 a.m. Feb. 19.” For Feb. 18 the forecast includes a light amount — about 0.1 inch — and forecasters cautioned that “people should still drive carefully because even 0.1 inch of snow, which is what is predicted to fall in Eugene Feb. 18, is enough to impact travel.” Morning low forecasts for Eugene-Springfield in the NWS summary are 36°F on Feb. 16, 31°F on Feb. 17 and 28°F on Feb. 18.
The NWS messaging for the valley emphasizes limited, morning-focused accumulation: “Snowfall won't be heavy and will be limited to the morning hours, but will pick up over time,” and officials added that “Any snow that falls will melt during the day” and that “Whatever snow sticks won't be deep.” Lane County residents and anyone planning travel between Eugene, Springfield and the Cascades should weigh those cautions; a historical reminder in the republished material noted that “Snow and ice make driving and even walking treacherous in Eugene, Springfield and the Willamette Valley Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025.”
